GOPHER is the PhD organization of the University of Groningen, providing a platform for PhD students to develop themselves, to network and to get to know fellow PhD students through educational and recreational events. Every PhD student is welcome to participate in GOPHER’s events and to suggest and organize new events. If you wish to get involved or just join the events, please contact the board at gopher@rug.nl or join their Facebook group for more information. 23rd of April is marked as the biggest happening of the year: GOPHER’s Lustrum Gala.

Put on your party dresses and suits and party along with all your PhD friends in the beautiful atmosphere of Plaza Danza.
Enjoy the 3 course dinner and dance to the (latin) beats of DJ Pirlo and DJ Carmelo.

LATIN DANCE WORKSHOP

Get ready to dance to the latin beats of DJ Caramelo!

Learn the best moves in our Latin Dance workshop at Plaza Danza. We will cover the basic steps of salsa, merengue and bachata. You can sign up with or without partner HERE

GRONINGEN DAY

To close this beautiful month, we invite you to explore what Groningen has to offer beyond the popular spots! During the Groningen Day on the 30th of April we organized these great activities:

10:00-12:30 Alternative Biking Tour
Fiona from “Alternative Groningen Tours” will take us around our beautiful home city far and beyond the city center. Get ready to explore places you haven’t been before!

12:30-13:30 Lunch at De Bastille
Grab a sandwich and some milk and juice. If the weather allows, we can enjoy the sunshine at their roof terrace!

14:00-15:30 Tour at Hooghoudt

This distillery is one of the prides of the north, famous for its alcoholic jenever and its sirups (non-alcoholic). Learn about the jenever making process, and enjoy the opportunity to get the Hooghoudt taste.

16:30-18:00 Tour at Martini Tower

Probably the biggest pride of Groningen is 'd'Olle Grieze'. This remarkable church overlooking Groningen is worth a visit for sure! We will enter the tower outside opening hours and will be around for the special occasion when the bells are sounded (every last Saturday of the month at 16:45).

Make sure you have a proper bike for the day!
