World Day for Cultural Diversity - May 2016

World Day for Cultural Diversity is annually held on May 21 to help people learn about the importance of cultural diversity and harmony.

Choose from our varied programme of cultural and creative workshops geared to inspire your pupils to embrace our varied cultural history, learn about different cultures and develop respect and tolerance for each other.  Using music, dance, play and arts, our team of creative practitioners will bring 'the world in to your classroom', providing authentic, stimulating activities from Africa, South America, Asia and Europe to develop understanding of cultural diversity and world citizenship.

“Wow! We had an amazing day. The dancing was energetic and so uplifting. The tutor inspired us with her own beautiful, elegant moves and she was brilliant with the children. I look forward to welcoming your company into our school in the future.” Culworth Primary School, Banbury

The Queen's 90th Birthday

To link in with the celebrations of the Queen’s 90th Birthday this May, we have put together two specially themed, cross-curricular workshops to help your school share in this historic event. Both workshops can result in a 'performance piece' which can be shared with your wider school community.
  • Dance like it’s 1926! - Celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday by stepping back in time to 1926 with our special Dance & Costume workshop and capture the spirit of the decade in which she was born.

  • The Queen and the Commonwealth - Use music and dance to explore the wonderfully diverse and fascinating cultures of some of the different countries that make up the Commonwealth. Choose from workshops focusing on Ghana, Jamaica or India, celebrating differences between nations whilst looking at what connects people from around the world.

The Olympics

Excitement around this summer's Olympic Games in Rio is already mounting.  Not only can the Games help inspire future generations of athletes, but they also provide a fantastic opportunity to learn about different cultures, celebrate differences, broaden horizons and inspire positive behaviour and aspiration.

Choose from a variety of our cultural workshops using music, dance and art to learn more about the countries taking part in the Olympics - or immerse yourself in the spirit of South America and explore Brazil's rich and colourful heritage captured in our carnival workshops and samba drumming experiences.

Choose a single workshop or put together a package to incorporate a number of areas to create 'themed' days or weeks for example around world music and dance, exploring cultures, health or fitness.  Please visit our website for details.

"The carnival workshop this afternoon has been FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and your artist - Annet - is brilliant, the children are infatuated with her!"  Belmont School, Cheltenham

Exploring British Values

We have kept this topic in our 'top 5 picks' for this term as we continue to get many enquiries from both primary and secondary schools across the country about this particular programme.

'Exploring British Values through Creativity and the Arts' (EBVCA) is a programme of workshops that incorporates a mixture of creative activities including games, dance, storytelling, drama and arts to explore four fundamental British values identified as key by the Department for Education and Ofsted.

Our tutors are experienced in using the arts to explore complex ideas in an age-appropriate and engaging way, bringing the topic to life for your pupils. Choose from individual sessions based around the following themes or build a programme to explore different areas each term.
  • Individual Liberty
  • Respect & Tolerance
  • Equality & Discrimination
  • Democracy
Together with delivering workshops directly to pupils, we also offer staff training  on how to embed British Values and support the successful delivery of the SMSC curriculum.  Please contact Ben Ward at World Jungle for more information on how we can support your school.
