Jose Leonardo Leon '05 | Music

Trombonist Jose Leonardo Leon has come a long way after moving from Venezuela to South Florida at the age of 20.
 
Leon, who graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s in music, has worked with professional organizations and artists across different countries. Organizations include the Florida Grand Opera; the Miami Symphony Orchestra; the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra in Spain; the Orquesta Filarmonica UNAM and the Jalisco Philharmonic in Mexico. ... to read more,

Alumna Marlene Liriano, 89' is elected President of IIDA International Board of Directors
Liriano, an FIU 2014 Torch Award recipient, was announced President of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Board of Directors for the 2016-2017 term. She has focused on creating innovative design solutions for her clients. Liriano has also been awarded the 2012 Best of Miami Architects and Designers from Miami Today and the 2006 Interior Designer of the Year from the AIA Miami Chapter. To read more,

Alumnus Hai Zhang, 02' features China in nineteensixtyeight
As one of the first of 17 artists to be represented by nineteensixtyeight, Hai Zhang joins a new curated platform dedicated to the exploration of contemporary photography. Nineteensixtyeight is based in London and founded by seasoned Italian gallerist, Isabella Brancolini. Zhang's photographs are exhibited on the nineteensixtyeight website as part of its series, "Unintended Homecoming," which are available to buy online. Hai Zhang was born in Kunming, China in 1976. Third Annual Eco Couture Recycling Fashion Show A Success!
This year’s Eco Couture garnered more than 1,000 attendees! From architecture to business students, 38 designs were entered for a chance at a $1,000 scholarship prize. Media coverage by PBS features the show. We hope that you will stop by the second floor dining terrace at Dadeland Mall to view a few of the outfits from this year's show. If you plan to see the outfits on display, or would like to share your Eco Couture ideas, be sure to post your message or photo on social media and hashtag #eco_couture!

Design Gallery Exhibition: FIU Architecture Rooftop Competition 
The FIU Emerging Architects Initiative program provides architects who have graduated within 15 years from an architecture school an opportunity to design and build a $16,000 innovative installation at the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture building. Please join us at the CARTA Miami Beach Urban Studios to view student designs for a rooftop structure.

Magazine Inspicio releases new spring edition
Last year's launch of a new media platform called Inspicio (
inspicio.fiu.edu) provides insight into all arts disciplines with an emphasis in Miami. Inspicio is now offered on the iPad App Store. The app for download is free. Please check out the latest spring edition. 
FIU Alumni Association hosts tournament for scholarship fund
To help benefit the FIU Alumni Association’s Scholarship Fund, the Alumni Association is hosting a fishing tournament Saturday, June 11. Funds are raised through sponsorships and boat registrations. It features fishing for Dolphin, as well as Wahoo, Tuna or Kingfish.  There will also be a Dock Party opened to the public and features food, music and activities. Join us for a good cause! FIU School of Architecture and FIU By Design propose expansion of City of Parkland library
The City of Parkland asked the FIU School of Architecture and FIU By Design to create conceptual plans and drawings that depict different solutions for the library. The current state of the library is about 13,000 square feet. The proposal created by FIU increases the area to 19,500 square feet. Students and faculty developed ideas into a series of schematic design proposals that were presented to City officials and staff. ...to read more,

Associate Professor and Studio partner featured on Intel's social media
Associate Professor Eric Goldemberg and MONAD Studio partner Veronica Zalcberg have been featured on Intel’s social media for the firm’s work in 3D-printed musical instruments. Intel featured the 3D-printed two-strong piezoelectric violin on its
Instagram feed. The post has received more than 5,000 likes and more than 40 comments by viewers. The company also featured the 3D-printed travel bass guitar on its Twitter feed, which garnered the global retweet by Intel France, Intel Spain, Intel Suisse, Intel Kenya and others. Richardson Sadeki offers Junior Architect and Architect Intern positions in Miami
The studio is looking for assistance in design and production work. A junior architect must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture and have up to 4 years of experience in either fields. The ideal intern candidate should have moderate CAD knowledge, model-making skills, both digital and 3-D. It is a part-time or full-time, paid internship. Applications for the ARTSail Residency & Research Program now available
ARTSail selects artists and curators to live and/or work on board a vessel for 4-6 weeks with a $40,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Miami Lighthouse is looking for a Coordinator and Music Instructor. The selected candidate would be responsible for providing organizational support, coordination and music instruction for its Music Program.
