Brain Drain Decimating Appraisal Profession?

The last decade has seen a number of factors to support that assessment including a drop in the total number of appraisers in the country, the advancing age of current appraisers, decreased demand during the years of economic struggle, regulatory changes as a result of the mortgage crisis, and more stringent requirements to become a state licensed real estate appraiser (see Appraisers Examine the Future of Their Profession). But there is reason for hope as the economy rebounds and groups like AIDC reach out to young real estate professionals to help them see where and how they can thrive in the profession.

On May 12, our Career Opportunities Workshop and Chapter Dinner brings trainees, candidates and employers together to explore the possibilities and understand the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as valuation professional. Molly Skipper, a dynamic associate at Valbridge, will share 21st century networking techniques appraisers can use to discover and connect with appraisal jobs. She’ll be followed by a panel of area employers who will share their preferences and pet peeves when hiring and/or working with appraisers. Click here for all the program details and registration.

AIDC is also working with professors at local colleges and universities to connect with students in the real estate departments and expose them to the wide variety of options for appraisers. This will be an annual on-going process to help ensure we can continually refresh the profession with a new generation of appraisers.

Please be sure to join us May 12 to learn more about this initiative and how you can play a key role.  If you’re an employer with trainees and candidates on your staff, bring them along! If you’re a trainee or candidate, bring your boss! The workshop includes a chapter networking dinner where you can connect (or re-connect) with your friends and colleagues.

Simple Linear Regression?

I don’t know about you, but I can’t recall there being anything “simple” about linear regression. But if you want to learn how to use Excel’s "data analysis" add-in and charting capabilities to apply statistical methods to valuation problems, you’ll want to sign up for Application & Interpretation of Simple Linear Regression on May 16-17 in Rockville, MD. Top-rated instructor, Mark Smeltzer will introduce you to the joys of simple linear regression along with assumptions underlying application of linear regression modeling, nonlinear curve fitting, prediction and forecasting, data sufficiency, and lots of other cool analytics that will take your appraisals to the next level.

Click here to sign up for this course so you can gain a solid understanding of simple linear regression analysis and be prepared for more advanced multiple linear regression study.
