Between May 7-June 11, we're hosting free workshops and information sessions in Saskatoon, in communities in SK, AB and BC, and online to equip future uSask students for their next steps in preparing to come to university.

Covering everything from class registration to preparing a student budget, U-Start is an important introduction to student life at uSask.

If you have students coming to uSask this summer or fall, please help us spread the word. Print this poster for your hall or office.

Countdown to Learning Communities

Sign-up opens May 9

It's no secret that participating in a Learning Community (LC) is one of the best ways for new students to make a successful transition to university. Learning Communities offer new students the chance to:
  • learn to adapt more quickly to university, including developing the skills needed to succeed in this new academic environment;
  • benefit from the mentorship and support of successful upper-year students and recent U of S graduates;
  • take a set of the same classes together with other new students in their college/program; and
  • enjoy early access to popular classes that can be used to meet the requirements of a variety of degrees.
Sign-up opens May 9, at 12 pm (noon) in SK for Learning Communities in: Sign-up for Education* Learning Communities opens May 16.

The countdown is on! Please encourage your students to check out LCs as early as possible as these popular programs are in high demand.

*All direct-entry Education students are expected to sign up for a Learning Community in Term 1 and Term 2.

Join us: Graduation Powwow - May 25, 2016

Since 2009, uSask's Graduation Powwow has been held in the spring to celebrate the academic achievements of graduating First Nations, Métis and Inuit students from the our university and from high schools throughout Saskatchewan.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free event or you can watch a live stream of the grand entry and honouring ceremonies online from your own home or school.

If your school plans to attend, please register your school group, including any graduating Aboriginal Grade 12 students* who wish to be part of the event.
Register to attend the Graduation Powwow
*Graduates whose names are submitted by Friday, April 29 will be included in the Graduation Powwow program booklet.

Getting ahead with summer classes

If getting ahead in their degree program, focusing on a tough class they want to get out of the way or earning credit for learning skills to succeed in their other classes sound appealing to your students, they should be taking a summer class!

Students can take almost any class they choose in the summer, but three we recommend for first-year students include:

  • INTS 100.3 - Strategies for Academic Success
  • ASTR 102.3 - Introduction to Galaxies and Cosmology
  • BIOL 121.3 - The Diversity of Life
Students can speak with an advisor about taking summer classes. If they need to switch their start term to summer, they can contact the Admissions Office to make the switch anytime before July 4.
