As we started the new year, we launched our “Going Hard for Homework!” campaign. The children and teens set daily goals of focusing hard to understand and complete all of their homework each day. This is often a challenge, because as we get closer to the testing time, homework assignments and projects increase. Many of the kids get overwhelmed and lose focus and momentum as they try to keep up with all of the extra work. To lessen the anxiety, the SCM staff created a less stressful, supportive environment for the kids to work on projects, receive tutoring and complete their homework. After their hardy daily snack, the kids are ready to Go Hard for Homework! It is great to see kids excited about getting their homework completed by the end of our homework period! We have many high fives and celebrations!
Summer Camp and Summer Job Training
This program is around the corner. We need YOUR help! We expect to serve 60-65 kids and hire at least 10 teens and college students. Summer Camp will begin on June 6, 2016. Along with Bible study, enrichment activities, field trips, and participating in fun activities, we feel compelled to implement an age appropriate curriculum addressing gangs, drugs, alcohol and guns. Our kids are facing these issues more and more and we want them to be aware and to have strategies to stand strong against these difficulties.

Help us welcome our new ASP volunteer Linda Terry! Linda is a part of the anchor class at Peachtree Presbyterian. She has settled in nicely as she works with SCM kids during homework time and reads with them. It’s never too late in the school year to help a child learn and read!
