Council Budget

Council's Budget will be handed down on June 15. My submission to the 2016-17 budget has centred on the issues that locals have raised with me over the past 10 or so months.

Funding for the Sandgate Pool upgrade is a priority for me and I hope we can now see that upgrade progressed quite soon. We need to see funding allocated for an upgrade to the Brighton Foreshore - this is a very important locaL project with Brighton being forgotten for far too long. Labor made a significant commitment to this area at the 2016 election. I would like to see the Lord Mayor put some money on the table for this important upgrade.

The Lord Mayor matched Labor’s commitment to upgrade Lemke Road to 4 lanes and replace the bridge over the Cabbage Tree Creek and upgrade the intersection at Depot Road and I hope to see this funded. The Sandgate Library is also due for an upgrade so I hope that we will see some funding come forward for this this financial year. I have also requested funding for a number of local road, footpath and park improvements.

I will keep locals up top date on all of the local projects that are funded through the budget.

Keep an eye out on my Facebook page to keep up to date with local news and keep an eye in your in letterboxes for my next free community BBQ or mobile office.

If you are part of a local community group and want me to feature an upcoming event in my e-news please contact my office to arrange this.

Cheers

Out and About in the Community

Fun 4 All Campaign

I've joined forces with the Fun 4 All campaign to get some all abilities play equipment installed at Arthur Davis Park in Sandgate. I have committed to matching the campaign dollar for dollar to see this happen. You can make donations online by clicking here or drop some loose change into my office in our tin on the counter. Bluwater Bowls Day

I sponsored the annual Bluewater bowls competition between Brighton, Sandgate and Eventide recently. Well done to the Brighton Bowls Club who took out the cup followed closely by Sandgate then Eventide. I sponsored the Ladies Friendship blows day at the Sandgate Bowls club a few weeks ago. It's great to see so many participants from the local area.

Sandgate's Town Crier

Sandgate now has an official Town Crier! Fred Krebs took part in Brisbane's quest for a Town Crier and after just missing out on taking out the city wide title, he will now serve as the Sandgate Town Crier. People will be familiar with Fred's 'crying' at the Einbunpin Festival and other local events. Well done Fred!

Peaceful Walk in Sandgate

Wayne Swan, Stirling Hinchliffe and I joined with hundreds of community members to participate in a peaceful walk through Sandgate to take a stand again domestic violence. The statistics are alarming. One death as a result of domestic violence is one too many. We can all play a role in putting an end to this blight on our community and it will take a genuine community effort. Thank you to SANDBAG for organising this event and to all of the other community organisations who came on board.

Biggest Morning Tea

Thank you to all the local businesses and residents who supported my Biggest Morning Tea. We raised just under $800 for cancer research. All of our morning tea was baked by locals and the Town Hall Bakery also donated a tray of goodies.

What's Coming Up...

Stirling Hinchliffe is hosting a fundraiser for MS Research. Special Guest Gary Allen will be attending once again this year to talk about his journey with MS and some of the ground breaking treatment he has received. Please RSVP before.
