Haig Point Celebrates 30 Years and the RBC Heritage in Style

If you are a Haig Point member and attending the Heritage is on your agenda, the water taxi will make complimentary runs every hour to Harbour Town for the duration of the tournament, April 14 – 17. Additionally, Haig Point will have its hospitality ferry docked at Harbour Town  waiting for you when your feet get tired and you need a cold beverage. To read more about how Haig Point celebrates Heritage, and other club related news and special events, check out the April issue of the Haig Point Happenings Newsletter.

While Haig Point celebrates its 30th year, the Heritage celebrates its 47th. Back then, nearly everyone had to reach for a map to discover Hilton Head’s whereabouts. Would anyone show up on Thanksgiving Weekend, especially to a remote, unknown spot? And would the world’s top golfers want to be challenged by a new, unfamiliar course?

Still the best in the game came. The King, Arnold Palmer, and the equally great Jack Nicklaus, who helped design Harbour Town along with young Pete Dye, were among the first to commit.

Then, good fortune smiled on the Harbour Town Golf Links when Palmer went on to win that initial Heritage, his first victory in 14 months, and the media did the rest by cranking out volume of glowing copy about Arnold’s victory, Dye's superb, new links course as well as Hilton Head Island...

County Council Approves Scaled-Back Version of Bloody Pt Plan

Concerns from Beaufort County Council over the scale of a plan to redevelop the Bloody Point golf course on Daufuskie appear to have been settled.

Council gave unanimous, preliminary approval Monday to the proposal to transform the 180-acre course into a mixed-use hospitality and residential district, with one more revision: The number of residential units was scaled back from 150 to 125.

Golf course owner Brian McCarthy and Mark Baker, president of architecture firm Wood and Partners, which is assisting McCarthy on the project, had downsized their original request from a 120-room to a 60-room inn and from 50,000 to 25,000 square feet of commercial space.
