The Psychology of Superstition
We hear from Dr Stuart Wilson, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh
Stuart Wilson is one of the few people in the world with a Ph.D in parapsychology but he gave up studying the paranormal and started researching why normal people believe weird things. In this talk he will describe research in psychology that attempts to explain how our minds can come to hold some very odd beliefs.
Plus we have our usual WI business to catch up on including NFWI Resolutions, call for baker's for Glos Rd Mayfest, June's DDG event, and an update on our clubs.

Fundraising
Glos Rd Central Mayfest - bakers wanted!
Following the success of the Redland Fair cake stall last year we are hanging big fundraising hopes on our cake stall at Glos Road Central Mayfest on Saturday 7th May. All money raised will go to this year's charity – Carers Support Centre
We need volunteers to bake cakes and staff the cake stall. Sign-up at the meeting or contact us directly to offer support.
More Cake!
To boost our fundraising efforts we also ask that a couple of members volunteer to make cakes, bakes, savoury treats and anything else tasty for the meetings! You can either sign up at the meeting or go to our new online sign-up page and book ahead!
14 June - Durdham Down Group (DDG) Fundraising Event (and inter-WI bake-off!)
Following the success of our own lawn bowls event we are organising and hosting a DDG lawn bowls event along with a bake-off competition (yes that's right, a inter-WI baking competition!)
Held at St Andrews Bowling Club, with coaching and a bar like last year, but all proceeds going to the DDG to support further events (and all bake entries eaten or take home by participants). Tickets cost £3 and will be available to purchase at our monthly meeting. It's going to be brilliant!
We are part of the Avon Fed DDG, along with Westbury Park WI, WI.RED (Redfield), Clifton WI, Blaise WI and Brislington WI.
Knit & Stitch Fundraising Ideas
Are looking for ideas for joint small projects they can do at their get togethers that can support our fundraising for this year's charity. If you have any ideas speak to Hannah Lowry.

WI News
Sustainable Gardening - Hanging ‘Brasket’ Competition!
WIs are invited to use their imagination and have some fun at re-using bra’s as hanging basket containers!
Sew the cups or under bra seams together and fill as normal! Fill with compost then plant flowers, herbs, salad leaves, strawberries and even tumbling tomatoes and take a photo to enter. One entry per WI - we just need to submit the winning photo by 31 August so we could vote on the winner at the July or August meeting.
Resolutions
As you will have seen in the latest WI Life magazine, unfortunately our resolution, 'Ban the Microbead' was not shortlisted, despite gaining a lot of momentum in recent months. So we'll be discussing and voting on the on the final two resolutions before June 11th NFWI AGM so have a read and come ready to debate over the next two meetings.
