WISE President’s Blog: April 2016

Happy Spring, fellow WISE Learners!

The weather so far this year has been rather upside-down, but we WISE members are good at “weathering” whatever comes along.

Have you noticed anything different about our lifelong learning institute? Our members seem to be getting younger and more gender-equal. (For example, more men are showing up in our classes.) Our WISE Strategic Planning Committee is designing an online membership survey this spring to discover who we are and how to improve our programs. Because we are eager to hear from you, please keep an eye on your WISE emails for the survey.

Thanks to your efforts in spreading the news about WISE, we recruited seventy new members this year. However, because we lose about that same number each year (somewhat like a college student body), we are holding steady at about three hundred members. Our WISE Strategic Planning Committee seeks a goal of four hundred members. To reach that goal we need to recruit one hundred new members each year, a work in progress.

The best time to recruit new members is when the fall catalog is ready in late June. This catalog is our best marketing hand-out, and will be available on our website at www.assumption.edu/WISE. If you need a copy of a catalog to share with a prospective member, contact the WISE office at 508-767-7513.  The catalog shows prospective members the variety of wonderful courses available, and includes a registration form for WISE.

Many thanks to all of you who contributed to the WISE Annual Fund!  The Fund is open until May 31, so you still have time to send a donation. These contributions enable WISE to improve office services, online member and group leader support, and community outreach in the coming year. Your generous support of the Fund is an expression of appreciation for the important role that WISE plays in your life.
