Consumer Council for Water

We continue to put customers at the heart of the water industry. In this edition of On Tap read about our free-to-use tools for customers facing financial hardship, and our plans for representing your views.
Forward Work Programme
We recently published our new Forward Work Programme which explains how we intend to represent the interests of water consumers over the next three years. You can take a look at our plans here.

Social Tariff Schemes
April saw a further three water companies – South Staffs Water, Cambridge Water and Dee Valley Water – launch their own social tariff schemes, which can help reduce water bills for low-income households. 18 water companies now have schemes in place and you can read more about each tariff in our online guide.
Water Meter Calculator
If you’re a fan of Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis you may have noticed our water meter calculator has repeatedly featured in his money saving tips on ITV and BBC. This popular tool continues to help thousands of customers every month work out if switching to a water meter could save them money. We have updated the calculator with the 2016/17 charges.
Customers identify £150,000 in benefits
Customers using our new benefits calculator in the first three months since we launched it have identified that they may be eligible for annual benefits totalling over £150,000.

More than 1,900 people used our free online tool, launched in collaboration with poverty relief charity Turn2us, between January and March. A further 570 customers also used our grants search tool to identify potential sources of financial assistance.
Water Saving Week
Water Saving Week (March 21 to 25) provided us with another great platform to help people of all ages save water at home, work, school and in their community. As well as sharing some great tips and advice through social media, we invited Waterwise’s Managing Director Jacob Tompkins to explain to consumers the importance of the week in a guest blog
Water Saving Week
It has been a record-breaking year for us in the media with CCWater having secured more coverage in 2015/16 than any previous year in our history. We kept consumers informed on the issues that matter most to them through almost 900 articles and interviews. You can listen to our latest interview with BBC Radio Cambridgeshire on the future of water resources here on from 1 hour 7 minutes in.
