The Season for Outdoor Beauty

Volunteer Park is flourishing with blooms this season.  If you haven’t had a chance to get to the park, now is a beautiful time to do it.  Take a stroll, walk the dog, photograph the blooms, or even chance a spring picnic in the sun.  The park is open and available to everyone!
 
Here at the Trust new opportunities are blooming as well. Our Amphitheater Project has published its final report and now moves into Phase II.  Department of Neighborhoods has just awarded us a $25,000 matching grant.  And our Spring Restoration Day is set to plant roses and make lasting change in the park garden beds.
 
As always, you can help Volunteer Park in lots of ways: Volunteer at our one of our gardening events, join a committee, or participate in the region-wide GiveBIG fund raising event from the ease of your home. 

We have a few secrets we’re sharing early with those who donate to the Trust. If you want to be filled in, a contribution of any amount will get you an invitation to our private, free Spring Reception in May.  

Whatever you do, we hope you enjoy our beautiful park to the fullest.

Help plant roses and beautify gardens in Volunteer Park
Spring Restoration Day Volunteers Gardening

Come garden with us in Volunteer Park! From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday April 24th we’ll plant roses, clear garden beds, do some weeding and have lots of fun. This is a great event for kids and families, and lovely way to meet friends and neighbors.

No gardening experience necessary. Gloves and tools will be provided as well as free coffee and doughnuts.  Stay for the whole event or as long as you like to help continue our restoration efforts and make Volunteer Park a more beautiful place for everyone.

GiveBIG is an exciting region-wide, one-day fundraising event for local nonprofits.  And YOU can make a difference.

On May 3rd, you can donate to Volunteer Park Trust online with a credit card and have your gift stretched with extra dollars from the Seattle Foundation, up to $2,500 per person.

This year you can pre-schedule your donation as early as April 18, so there will be no scrambling on the day of the event.

Final Report Published and New Grant Awarded
 
Our year-long project to create a Feasibility Study & Design Program for the new Amphitheater in Volunteer Park is wrapping up with the publication of the final report. The 90-page document contains photos, data, public input, and recommendations compiled from meetings with over 30 performance groups, local community organizations, and the general public.
 
Of note are the recommendations to move the Amphitheater from its current location to a site slightly northwest, to include a green room that can be used as classroom space, and to include a roof over the structure.  You can download and read the whole report from our webpage here.
 
But we’re not stopping there. Volunteer Park Trust has already been awarded a $25,000 matching grant from Department of Neighborhoods to begin Phase II: Concept Design.  The grant will cover a three-to-four month period to develop preliminary design concepts. These will be refined and presented to the Seattle Landmarks Board and to the general public. 

The mission of Volunteer Park Trust is to restore, protect, and preserve this city and national landmark for today and for generations to come.
