Thanks to our supportive community we have surpassed our $15,000 goal and quicker than we could have thought possible!
In mid March, the Milwood Neighborhood Assoc, as Co-Adopters of Balcones Park, announced that we had been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Neighborhood Partnering Program and $50,000 from Austin Parks Foundation for a total of $200,000. These grants would help our beloved park get some much needed improvements. The only catch was, we needed to raise $15,000 of our own funds to prove our commitment. At that time, we put out a plea to help us raise the $15,000.
We felt it was going to be a stretch & a long road, but we knew we had a wonderful community of residents and park users that would help us make this a reality.
We are beyond excited to announce that the responses have been above and beyond our wildest hopes and as a result we have not only reached the $15,000 goal in record time, but we have exceeded it!! What this means is that all overage funds will go to future improvement projects that we were not able to address in what we will now call Phase 1 (Pool Shade & Pavilion). Our new goal (Phase 2) is to work with APF & NPP to apply for another grant in the near future in order to make our money go further - we get additional points in the grant process for already having the cash match promised, so every dollar already raised will improve our chances of getting another grant. We are not stopping now! We are thrilled to be able to give Balcones Park the love and attention it deserves, and we are so grateful for everyone's generosity and commitment to make this happen.
We would not have been able to do this without each and every one of you! Thank you, Park Heroes!
Special Thanks to the Four Seasons Community School, Northwood Neighborhood Assoc, Angus Valley Area Neighborhood Assoc, and Walnut Crossing Neighborhood Assoc for helping us spread the word and raise these funds.
We also could not have done it without our wonderful supporters who donated $500 or more: Textruss, Amplify Credit Union, Angus Valley Area Neighborhood Assoc, Milwood Neighborhood Assoc, The Foreman Family, The Hedges Family, The Allen Family, & The Lafferty Family!
And of course a Giant Thank You to the Neighborhood Partnering Program Team, Austin Parks Foundation Team and Austin's Parks and Recreation Department, who have done an amazing job helping us fund and supporting us in every way on this project - without them none of this would be possible!
Again, we could not have done this without the dedication and commitment of our residents and neighbors who stepped up to make this a reality. The support has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated!
