South Riding Women in Business Hosts
Fundraising Gala for Pantry on June 5th

In a true display of “neighbors feeding neighbors,” South Riding Women in Business is hosting its first community charity gala with proceeds benefiting the Dulles South Food Pantry (DSFP).

Taking place Sunday, June 5, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast in Middleburg, Va., the gala will feature a festive Derby theme, complete with networking, hors d’ouevres, and beverages.

The gala is open to the public, and all proceeds support the Pantry. Tickets are $75 and may be purchased online.

“We’re very thankful that the South Riding Women in Business chose the Pantry as the charity beneficiary of its first gala event,” said Charlene Jones, president of the DSFP. “Through this generosity, we will be able to assist more individuals in need.”

South Riding Women in Business is a philanthropic networking group comprised of active business women within the Dulles South area of Loudoun County. For more information on how to join the gala’s diamond-level sponsors, J Beauty Studio and KR Construction, as a sponsor, visit the Gala Website.

 Hunger Awareness Month

As part of the Love Your Neighbor, Feed Your Neighbor LYNFYN effort, Chairman Randall and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will issue a Proclamation declaring: May is Hunger Awareness Month.   In 2015, over 90,000 lbs of food were donated to seven food pantries and four Backpack Buddies programs in Loudoun County during the LYNFYN food drive. This year, LYNFYN plans to grow through increased partnerships and has a goal to raise over 100,000 lbs for Loudoun's hungry.

Volunteer Spotlight:  This month we'd like to recognize the staff and students of J.Michael  Lunsford Middle School.  They have done an amazing job with their 7th grade history lessons and One to the World projects.  With the help of their teachers, the students have done a great job raising money and food donations for the pantry through a number of inventive projects.  They have also donated recipes, toothbrushes (thanks to Smilz Dentistry) and seeds (thanks to Meadows Farms) to our guests, they have interviewed our pantry President to learn more about food insecurity (click here to watch the video), and they have lobbied the LCPS school board for changes to the Cafe Prepay system (see the Washington Post article here).  The list of projects goes on and on.  Great job Lions, you have really shown how Students are Helping Neighbors!

Food Drive Stars:   Thanks to Arcola UMC Music Ministry, Chinmaya Mission Church, Dulles South Rotary Club, Freedom High School, J. Michael Lunsford Middle School, John Champe HS Interact Club, Little River ES, Mercer MS, Star International Movers, Stone Springs Hospital, Trailside MS FCCLA.  They raised over 2870 lbs and $505 last month.
