Marty's Message

Each year, we honor one College of Professional Studies student who has been heroic with the CPS Heroes Award. Recipients have overcome challenges, advocated for something larger than themselves, or have helped someone in need. Students are nominated for the Heroes Award by CPS faculty or staff.

This year, the CPS Heroes Award was presented to clinical laboratory sciences student Crystal Nations. Crystal has excelled as a student while supporting her family and fostering two young children she is now in the process of adopting.

The award comes with a scholarship that was initially funded by family and friends of Casey Gazdik, a student in our college who died in 2001. Since then many people have honored their own heroes by making contributions to the fund.

The CPS Heroes Award honors true, real-life heroes–it is truly special.

Marty Loy,
Dean
