Make your mark on our first ever, all-ages bookmark contest.
We're asking our library patrons of all ages to design a bookmark related to our summer themes (On Your Mark, Get Set, Read / Get in the Game: Read / Exercise Your Mind - Read). Four winning bookmarks will be professionally printed and handed out at the library as our official summer library program bookmark.
Entries may be submitted from April 1 through April 30. For entry forms and complete contest rules, stop by the library or download an entry form.

Each month we try something new that we found on Pinterest. Just in time for Derby Days, May's project is decorating fancy hats. We'll have all the supplies you need to make a fascinator: flowers, beads, feathers, ribbons, netting. Started reading the books by "Richard Castle" as I love watching Castle on TV. I think I'll probably end up reading all of them! There goes my free time this summer.
The new cookbook from the library, Baking with Mary Berry, is good. After watching The Great British Bake Off with her as a judge, I was curious about how complicated the recipes would be. Lots of yummy ideas in the book to try.

I have a sister who's an Amy Poehler Smart Girl and a friend who's a Mindy Kaling gal, but it turns out I'm more of a Tina Fey fan...which may be why I've been enjoying Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (co-produced by Tina) so much. It has all the absurd, silly, joke-a-minute, and occasionally offensive humor of 30 Rock, but with a touch of Midwestern innocence provided by Kimmy, a former (unwilling) doomsday cult member and bunker dweller now trying to turn New Yorker as she catches up on 15 lost years.
Speaking of funny women, I laughed my way through Una LaMarche's Unabrow: Misadventures of a Late Bloomer. Una is hilarious and relatable for anyone who was in school during the '90s (at least, she was relatable until I later found out that her '90s high school experience included being friends with Lin-Manuel Miranda). There were graphs! Terrible childhood haircuts! References to The Babysitters Club! I realize none of that sounds funny, but it was! This made a welcome adult break from the teen books I usually read.

Our online library catalog had a fairly major update last month and a minor update on April 25 to fix a few bugs and improve searching. If you see a large, blank rectangle when you look at the catalog from home, try clearing your cache. If you run into any other problems using our catalog, please let us know.

We had a blast having the Peeps dioramas on display. Our Peep-le's Choice votes were tallied April 3, and this year's winners were 221 Peeper St, Fellowship of the Peep, The Very Hungry Peep, and Ali Bab and the 40 Peeps (staff).
