Congregational Meeting Update
Last Sunday, we had a great congregational meeting. Here are some highlights, or you can watch the entire meeting here.
Fred Ouderkerken, Chairman of the Elder Board, opened the meeting with Philippians 4:6-7:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
He then reminded us of the church’s vision: To develop, empower and release kingdom people and kingdom communities into missional engagement in their spheres of influence. Further, he mentioned our mission of “follow, connect and go,” around which we align our ministries, staff and budgets.
Fred reminded us of some of the things that God is doing at EvFree...

Praying Slowly
I used to pray quickly. A fragment here. A sentence there. An occasional paragraph.
I treated "pray without ceasing" as "interject prayer thoughts throughout the day." So I prayed at a lot of different times, but I didn't pray a lot. Only a smattering of my thousands of daily words were prayerful.
And when I prayed, I didn’t hear God...because I didn’t listen. How could I? I was launching tiny prayer monologues in the midst of multitasking. I slung requests or snippets of thanks at God's feet like I was playing ding-dong-ditch-'em. I had no capacity to receive a response as I raced away. Yet I had the audacity to accuse God of being silent.
Then I got a new job. My commute doubled, and in stop-and-go traffic I found listening to the podcasts I loved created too much sensory input. So I began to drive in silence.
At the same time a lot was happening at church, and it occurred to me I should pray for the people in leadership positions navigating the choppy waters. Inexplicably I decided it would be a great idea to spend my morning drive praying for our church. That meant a minimum of thirty minutes a day, five days a week. Every week. Praying. About one thing...

30th Anniversary Organ Concert
The Wicks Pipe Organ has been part of our church music community since it was built and installed in 1985. The weekly Closer Walk Bible Study, under the leadership of Pastor John Coulombe, recently held a 30 year Organ Anniversary Concert featuring our pipe organ and four outstanding organists who played it for years in worship and praise: Margaret Sanders, our church organist for many years; Ed Bridgeford, chairman of the original organ project; Tom Leonard, a regular guest organist over the years and Richard Unfried, who followed Margaret as our church organist for two decades.
With 450 in attendance on a Wednesday morning, April 6, the concert featured hymns as well as several wonderful pipe organ classics. Videos were made of the four organists that give a good sense of the program of music and the spirit of joy that made up the mid-morning concert. Enjoy the videos here!
