Celebrate Earth Day!

The global climate movement is growing.  As individuals, communities, and nations, we must work together to protect the only world we've got.  Take one step now and join us at Lake Edge Park on Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.  Bring your work gloves and tools you need to pick up debris and litter.  Feel free to bring a friend or two!  Hot cocoa and donuts will be served, while supplies last.

Urban Jungle

by Sara Strehlow, LENA Secretary

Beautiful red fur, big bushy tail, this usually agile, shy creature, now a victim to roadkill lies dead on a road in Lake Edge Neighborhood.  Growing up we are taught these animals are happy frolicking in the woods somewhere far away.  So when you see one on the side of the road, or in your city backyard it may come to some surprise. However Lake Edge Neighborhood is home to a vast variety of wild animals that are thriving in this urban environment. MORE

ALLIS School Heritage Community Garden Initiative

Ms Carol Troyer-Shank, leader of the project came to speak to LENA members last month about the initiative and how LENA and its residents can assist.  The ASHCGI is a program aimed to create a community garden at Allis Elementary to pass along the heritage of gardening.

LENA members and residents in the neighborhood are also invited to attend the upcoming workshop, Planning Your Garden:

  • Tuesday, April 26 - 6:00 pm - Allis Cafeteria. Joe Muellenberg, UW-Extension Dane County, will guide us through planning cool and warm season plantings in small gardens. RSVP appreciated to Carol Shank by email or phone 469-2678.

Calling for Walkers and Runners of All Abilities!

In preparation for the upcoming Health and Fitness Series in May.  We are in need of coaches to help lead groups of walkers and runners.  Come join neighbors to walk or run as we train for an official race this summer.  Email LENA if you are interested in becoming a coach or if you would like to join fellow neighbors in this fun event.
A Word From Our Sponsor.......
Many people use mulch for decorative ground cover but don't realize the extra benefits it provides.  Mulch helps retain moisture for the plants and acts as erosion control during heavy rains.  It also provides a natural weed barrier that doesn't allow sunlight in.  A mulch ground cover keeps temperatures in the soil moderate during the heat of summer and frost protection for plants in winter.

Contact us today for your mulching needs!
