I was privileged to attend the 2016 National Volunteering Conference earlier this month in Canberra. Day 1 saw the release of the State of Volunteering Report by Volunteering Australia and PwC. It was heartening to hear how volunteering has positively impacted our community but the report brought to the forefront the barriers to volunteering that currently exist. You can read our full response by visiting the website.
For the remainder of the conference, the focus turned to how the sector can "Build the Future" of volunteering. One of the ways is to recognise our volunteers and their contribution and what better way than during National Volunteer Week. To start the week The Centre will host the National Volunteer Week Forum, May 9 at Parliament House, Sydney. We hope to see you there! The venue has limited capacity, so please register ASAP to avoid disappointment.
We are pleased to officially launch the 10th Annual NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards recognising the work of volunteers and Volunteer Involving Organisations. The awards are proudly supported by Principal Partners ClubsNSW and Department of Family & Community Services and supporters Bupa Aged Care and Etchcraft. We hope 2016 sees a record number of nominations so start thinking about who you'll nominate today!
Join us for an exciting forum to kick off National Volunteer Week. Special guest speaker Dr Thomas Nielsen from the University of Canberra will be giving an address entitled "Giving: a strong predictor of health and happiness".
Limited spots are available so take this opportunity to learn more about the value of volunteering and its contribution to our community.
