Hi ,

How are you?

Well the winter sports season is in full swing with some interesting AFL, league and rugby results already in the season. Our Sports Physician Dr Angus Bathgate and Sports Dietitian Jessica Spendlove have been involved in some early success with the GWS Giants and are quietly confident about their finals chances this year. Sports Physio Craig Gregory has been working with Balmain Rugby again this year, and their 1st grade premiership defense is off to a good start with 3 wins from 3 rounds so far.

Thanks for your patience over the last few weeks with our Physio bookings, which have been a bit tight following two recent injuries to our two Physios Denise Berg (fractured wrist) and Gavan Sticka (knee meniscal tear), who have been expertly managed by our two in-house Orthopaedic Specialists Dr Bernard Schick (Hand and Wrist) and Dr David Broe (Knee).

Regards
The Team at Balmain Sports Medicine

Foam Rolling: A Love / Hate Relationship

PETRA KOENIG
Physiotherapist

Foam rolling, two words that can instil dread in any runner or athlete, however with consistent use can become a phrase of endearment! Self-myofascial release (or ‘foam rolling/self-massage’) can be performed with the use of a foam roller or spikey massage ball.  Why would I want to inflict pain on myself I often hear people ask?  We refer to foam rolling soreness as ‘good pain!’ as this pain assists the return of your muscles to normal function post exercise, meaning back to their normal elastic state so they are ready to perform when you next ask them.

Below you'll find some useful information to help you with your supplement choices, should you wish to take one.
