AFN: Networking for Impact

ARC Federal Co-Chair Earl Gohl addresses the Appalachian Funders Network, a leader in coordinating public and private investments in the Region.
The Appalachia Funders Network (AFN) is group of over 80 local, regional, national foundations, financial institutions, and government agencies all with a common commitment to a more equitable, sustainable, and dynamic regional economy in Central Appalachia. AFN’s foundation members alone hold over $5 billion in assets and give $86 million annually to accelerate economic transition across six Central Appalachian states. AFN is primarily organized through working groups focusing on some of the Region's key growth sectors, including: energy and natural resources, food systems, health, and community capacity building. This week, ARC Federal Co-Chair Earl Gohl and other ARC program staff were in Roanoke, West Virginia, for AFN's 7th Annual Gathering, Aligning Strategies for Appalachian Transition. During this gathering, funders discussed effective strategies, best practices, and public policies that will continue to benefit the Region. "ARC is proud to partner with AFN," said Earl Gohl. "The Appalachian Funders Network is vibrant, forward leaning, and dedicated to the Region’s future."

Endless Mountains Health Systems Hospital—Treating Patients and Creating Jobs
Over 42,000 office visits and 7,500 emergencies come through the Endless Mountains Health Systems Hospital in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, each year. In 2013, with ARC support, the hospital built a new facility expanding its emergency, primary care, and surgical facilities, and meeting the area’s health care needs. The new facility now features state-of-the-art equipment and a fuller range of services for patients. It is also creating jobs. By 2014, Endless Mountains employed 233 employees and was on track to treat an additional 2.400 new patients a year.
