Community Discussion: What is Justice?

In conjunction with their current exhibition Prison Obscura which sheds light on the U.S. prison system, Newspace Center for Photography will host a discussion on the circumstances that lead individuals to enter our criminal justice system; the conditions they face once they are imprisoned; and the difficulties confronting them once they are released.

Born December 16, 1946 in Newport, Oregon, artist Rick Bartow passed April 2, 2016 due to complications from congestive heart failure.  He was at home in Newport surrounded by family and loved ones. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30th, 2pm, at the Newport Performing Arts Center, Newport, Oregon.  All are welcome.

Join the Cooley Gallery at LIKEWISE to celebrate the publication of the first monograph on the work of musician and performance artist Wynne Greenwood, who performed as Tracy and the Plastics from 1999–2006. The catalog is published by the Cooley Gallery, Reed College, and the New Museum, NY.  Greenwood will be in attendance and screen new work.
 
All proceeds from catalog sales will be donated to support the students of the Portland School of Rock.

The artists of Unraveled: Textile Reconsidered
at the Contemporary Arts Center Cincinnati, reinvent the everyday in their work and make it resonate. Magazines, clothing, rugs, bed sheets, blankets and even popular phrases are taken apart and then rebuilt into something entirely new. Portland Based artist Mark R. Smith is featured in this exhibition.

Mark Bradford: Venice Biennale

PADA congratulates artist Mark Bradford on being selected to represent the US at the next Venice Biennale. A well deserved achievement for this dynamic and compelling artist. Currently the Portland Art Museum has a great example of his collage/painting on view on the 3rd floor of the contemporary art wing.
