The Division II Management Council voted earlier this week to support three significant changes to the division’s financial aid rules, moving the legislative concepts one step closer to a membership vote at the 2017 NCAA Convention in January. The Division II Presidents Council will review the concepts and decide whether to sponsor them as formal proposals. The financial aid concepts, which were born out of a three-year review led by the Division II Legislation Committee, are 1) Count only athletics aid toward individual and team equivalency limits, 2) Eliminate term-by-term financial aid awards and 3) Permit increases in athletically related financial aid at any time and for any reason. - link

ENMU is hoping to have the job filled before outgoing AD Geiser retires on July 1st. VP of Students Affairs Long described what the search committee is looking for, "The ideal candidate is someone who has a senior-level athletic administration experience. It could be a former athletic director, a senior associate athletic director or an assistant athletic director. You (should) have knowledge of NCAA issues … knowledge of compliance, knowledge of recruiting, knowledge of the conference and how it operates like scheduling and how the issues that come up in the conference are dealt with.” Prez Gamble, who has the final say on the hire, went more big picture when explaining what he's looking for, “We’re just looking for the person who is the right fit. ... Someone who is fair-handed, knows when to discipline and when to not discipline. Someone who has a track record of success where he or she has been in the past." - link

But I will not miss the grind that is coaching at the NCAA D-II level. People do not understand that coaching is an almost 24/7, 365 days a year job. It dominates all aspects of your life. ... That's fine though, because those of us who do this are passionate about what we do. But it also burns you out a little and you know when it's time to move on." - link
