Hi,

There are still a few places left for the visit to a new hydro power scheme near Dulverton next Saturday morning on 7 May. Please email (by clicking link) if you would like to join us.

Our big news this month is that a top climate expert, Professor Tim Lenton, has agreed to give a talk at an open meeting on 18 July at 7:30pm. Please note the date and let us know if you can help by passing on details to others. The meeting will be held in the large main hall at Kingsmead School and jointly promoted with neighbouring groups. Further details will be provided in our next newsletter.

In September, we are planning a give and take event, where people can pass on usable unwanted items for others to reuse. These have proved very popular in other areas. Help to plan and arrange our event is welcomed - see below for details of a planning meeting in June and do come along to find out more.

As usual, this newsletter contains further news and actions on tackling climate change, including everyday things we can do ourselves. For some reasons to be cheerful in the face of ever-rising carbon emissions, you may wish to take a look (under Click Here ...) at the report on a recent TED talk by Al Gore.

Return of the LED giveaway

Despite the downpour on the day, our LED stall in February was a great success and we had a good response to the energy saving advice provided too. Just over half the bulbs were distributed then, so we are organising another stall in The Square from 10am on 21 May. The event is aimed at those new to energy saving bulbs and benefits of modern LEDs.

Planning meeting for give and take event

Give and take events have proved popular in other areas, such as Minehead, Tiverton and Wedmore. Local people can pass on things they no longer need for others to reuse. Somerset Waste Partnership have also published guidance. We will plan our own event for the Wivey area in September at a meeting at 7:30pm on Tuesday 21 June at Wiveliscombe House in The Square (enter through front door).

Save £200 - switch energy supplier

Many people could save £200 per year or more by switching energy supplier, especially those with one of the big six suppliers. You can also choose from highly rated 100% renewable suppliers. Switching is now easy and there are independent comparison sites. See our website for further details and links.
