Building Our Future: The Story of the WaterFire Arts Center video series explores new cultural touchstone in Valley Neighborhood

A video series supported by TRAC Builders, Inc. exploring the history, construction, and future of WaterFire Providence’s new headquarters shines light on the Valley neighborhood’s latest cultural institution

Providence, RI (April 15, 2016) – WaterFire Providence announces with the support of TRAC Builders Inc. a new internet and social media video series. New episodes beginning with the release of the first on April 18th are scheduled for release every other Monday, with extra features interspersed. Episodes will detail the history, construction, and future of WaterFire Providence’s new headquarters, The WaterFire Arts Center.

WaterFire Providence is taking a big step as an organization and moving from its temporary offices into a permanent home. The WaterFire Arts Center, a renovated historic industrial building, will create a solid foundation for the future of WaterFire Providence by facilitating the production of its signature events and drawing its footprint from across the city into a single location. The WaterFire Arts Center expands WaterFire Providence’s abilities beyond the artistic installation by also creating an artistic venue, an education center, and a repository of creative placemaking information that will be accessible to people across the globe and to the residents of the Valley neighborhood and the city of Providence.

Building our Future: The Story of the WaterFire Arts Center documents the design and construction challenges of the new headquarters through interviews with the architects, construction managers, contractors and other parties involved in the renovation. But it also describes how The WaterFire Arts Center will be used by WaterFire and how it will create opportunities to broaden the scope of our mission and allow us to further engage with the people and city of Providence. Examples of content that episodes will include are selective deconstruction, the fabrication and installation of steel components from plant to jobsite, and the architectural design considerations for a one-of-a kind organization like WaterFire Providence.

Building our Future: The Story of the WaterFire Arts Center is supported by TRAC Builders Inc., a Valley neighborhood located general contracting and construction management firm. TRAC Builders is overseeing the project and shepherding it to completion. TRAC Builders founder, Chief Executive Officer and President William Tracey sees a unique opportunity in the project for invigorating the local community, saying:

"Our partnership with Waterfire Providence has unlocked an energy that we hope will be a boon to Providence. The Waterfire Arts center will be an artistic, innovative, and cultural destination. We are grateful to be a part of this project and excited to see how our neighborhood and Providence transform together."

Peter Mello, Managing Director of WaterFire Providence, recognizes the impact the new building will have on the organization and the community, and feels passionately about sharing the story of the building with the world. Speaking about the building and the video series, Peter has said

"We are really looking forward to sharing our experiences about the construction of WaterFire Arts Center and telling our organization's story in a weekly web video series, ‘Building Our Future.’ Over the past 20 years, tens of millions of visitors have come to Providence from all over the world to experience WaterFire. Now they, and Rhode Islanders, will have the opportunity to learn more about our nonprofit and, ultimately, visit one of the most unique art centers in the country."

Building our Future: The Story of the WaterFire Arts Center will be viewable through WaterFire Providence’s Facebook page on Vimeo, on YouTube, and on instagram by following @waterfireprov.
