According CBS Minnesota, interviews will begin next week for the AD hiring process at Minnesota. Per a source, Turnkey Search will "begin vetting candidates in the Midwest and East during in-person meetings next week." Potential candidates mentioned are Interim AD Goetz, WCHA Commish Robertson, former FB student-athlete & notable business executive Najarian, Penn State Deputy AD Esten, former Akron AD & current Learfield VP Wistrcill, Miami (FL) AD James, former Minnesota Timberwolves Prez Stein & Northern Illinois AD Frazier. - link
UNLV AD Kunzer-Murphy's statement on the exit of newly hired MBB HC Beard for Texas Tech, "This unprecedented move is extremely disappointing to the President and I, for our program and to our fans. Our search process allowed us to develop a deep pool of qualified candidates, from which we will select a great coach who really wants to be here and who will honor his commitments in leading the Runnin’ Rebels." - link
Conversely, here's what Texas Tech AD Hocutt had to say about his hiring of Beard, "We are proud and excited to hire a coach of Chris' caliber. Our program achieved tremendous success this year and I see that as something Chris will build upon and take us to even further heights. We are thrilled to have him back home at Texas Tech." Presser to be held this morning in Lubbock. - link
A look at Virginia Tech's debt situation starts with a useful chart indicating the situation has improved for the Hokies as a percentage of overall budget every year since FY2005 when the figure stood at 174% ($79.5m in debt against $45.7m in revenue). In FY2015 the metric had been reduced to 62% ($49.7m in debt vs. $80.2m in revenue). The author of this article argues taking on an additional $30m in debt for facility renovations around the Blacksburg campus is acceptable as AD Babcock has proven to be able to increase revenues. - link
WDRB's Crawford, "Jurich doctrine: Spend for the program you want, not the one you have." Argues Louisville AD Jurich wants a FB program that's competitive annually with Florida State & Clemson, understands FB is king, on the recently announced new contract for FB HC Petrino, "If you're going to spend all that money to try to move up to the Cadillac programs in college football, you better make sure the driver is taken care of, too...It's as much about the position as the man, really." More. - link
The AP's Russo writes on the trend of 'Group of 5' FB HCs making moves lately that break from the historical path to a top job, like former Central Michigan HC Enos to Arkansas as OC or former Ball State HC Lembo to Maryland as an AC. Parker Executive Search's Daniel Parker notes how the days have changed from being able to get a 'Power 5' coordinator automatically interested in a G5 HC opportunity & the change revolves around money. Southern Miss AD McGillis, who had to replace former HC Monken late in the change window this year, not sure there's been as big of a shift as some believe, says a number coaches making more than $1m reached out about the Golden Eagles opening. - link
Ten of 12 returning players on the Loyola (Chicago) WBB team have transferred or requested a release from their scholarships, prompting the school to launch an internal investigation into the conduct of HC Swoopes. Last season, five players transferred. Deputy AD Truax, "Coach Swoopes is aware of, and will fully cooperate with, the investigation. We look forward to learning how we can resolve these allegations and improve the student-athlete experience within the women's basketball program." The Ramblers finished 14-16 this season and Swoopes is 31-62 in three seasons in Chicago. - link
A new AD & now an evolution of its brand & identity system at USC. Overall, the changes are subtle, but they do include the design of a new Trojan head, even though FB will continue to wear the historical version on helmets. "Secondary colors of Black and White and a tertiary color of Metallic Gold have been added for occasional use." Outgoing AD Haden, "For the first time ever, we have united all 21 of our sports under one brand umbrella so that we have a consistent look." - link

Photos and videos of most projects included. - link
In what would be a huge move in the overall entertainment world & one that would undoubtedly impact sports, re/code's Kafka reports Disney is in talks to invest in Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM), a leading entity in the streaming space who handles the guts of March Madness & many other streaming sports efforts. While the deal could still fall apart, one element of a possible agreement could include Disney having the right to eventually buy a controlling stake in the company. - link

Nearly 6,800 passengers missed their American Airlines flights between March 14-20 because of long TSA checkpoint lines. AA Spokesman Feinstein, "The lines at TSA checkpoints nationwide have become unacceptable. The result: our customers are waiting in TSA lines greater than one hour. As we approach spring and summer, we are concerned that these lines will grow even longer." Part of the issue is that TSA's budget cuts dropped its nationwide staff to 42,500, while the Department of Transportation estimates 699m people will take to the skies in 2016, a 7% uptick from last year. - link

Profile on Wisconsin Assoc. AD for Business Development McIntosh who was recruited back to his alma mater by AD Alvarez in 2014 & has moved his way up the department after starting as Director of Biz Dev. Left life as an entrepreneur after a strong pitch by the Badgers boss, "My business ventures have been incredible, exciting. But I've never had the connection with the product or service that I do here. I never had that kind of passion for it." Alvarez with high comments on McIntosh, plus the article mentions sources who believe he could be the successor to Alvarez once he retires. - link
Wisconsin-Milwaukee public address announcer Johnson resigns after 17 years with the Panthers & has some choice words for UWM leadership on the way out. Believes there's been a succession of questionable ADs, wishes those who are still "imprisoned" within the department good luck, "Finally, best of luck to LaVall Jordan, his staff, and the players. As so often happens in the NCAA, it’s not your fault. Win and get out quick, because long term is fatal at UWM Athletics." - link
In 2008, Iowa booster Rastetter pledged $5m to the Hawkeyes new FB training complex, but to date has given only $1.5m. As he seeks re-election as the Board of Regents President next week, many question the delay with his pledge. One theory is his dislike of former Iowa Prez Mason, when she stepped down last year he began incremental donations for the first time since his initial payment of $500k in 2012. - link
The NCAA has ruled that former South Carolina running back Lattimore cannot be paid by the Gamecocks for his "advisory position" on FB HC Muschamp's staff "because his status as a former player and influence through his foundation and football camps would constitute an unfair recruiting advantage." - link
While his sentiment is probably understandable, new Georgia Tech MBB HC Pastner applies an odd application to wanting ACs who are all about building a program...no golfing. "My first question to anyone I (might) hire is, ‘Do you golf?’ If they say, ‘Yes,’ you can’t work for me, because that means five hours on a Sunday or on a Saturday. Can’t. Don’t want it. That’s for my assistant coaches. Any of my assistant coaches, if they’re golfers, not working for me." Admits his non-stop approach may be a bit flawed, "It’s not always the best way to be at times, because you just go and go and go, but that’s just who I am." - link
UCF AD White announces several hires and promotions: Houston hired from Guidewell Connect to be Assoc. AD for Corporate Partnerships; Smoley named Assoc. Just one opinion, but an interesting series of tweets from SpringOwl Asset Management lead & activist investor Jackson on the topic of who eventually takes over for Disney CEO Iger. Jackson argues Facebook COO Sandberg will be Iger's successor, but recognizes that FB CEO Zuckerberg has said he'll step away in five to ten years & Sandberg could stick around for that opportunity. Still thinks leading the iconic Disney brand will be the trump card. - link (scroll down)

Missed this earlier in the week as ESPN's Adelson wrote with more details on the secret meeting between new Virginia Tech FB HC Fuente & longtime Hokies DC Foster. Foster left Blacksburg on a private flight with Executive Assoc. AD Reed-Francois at 10:30p on Monday of the Virginia game week & wasn't informed of where they were headed until halfway en route. The duo didn't arrive in Memphis until 1a. Fuente recounts how he wanted to make Foster immediately comfortable, Foster says the pair "hit it off." Landed in Blacksburg at 5:30a with Foster getting right back to game planning. - link
Former Portland MBB HC Reveno has been quite open about his dismissal from the Pilots program with additional thoughts on the state of coaching & leadership within the industry. On why Gonzaga & St. Mary's lead the pack in the WCC, "Alignment between the president and AD. Also, having everyone on the academic team working together to do something that's really hard... integrate athletics and academics on that level." More. - link
In the past 13 months, seven of the 10 Horizon League's MBB HCs have departed their respective schools, starting with UIC firing Moore last March and most recently Drew leaving Valpo for Vandy last week. Sports Illustrated's Kramer points out that only two (Drew & former Green Bay HC Wardle) left for "better jobs" and the firings of Wright State's Donlon and Milwaukee's Jeter "turned heads." - link
Key notes from the NBA: While Commish Silver calls the new law in North Carolina "problematic," there has been no decision made on moving the 2017 All-Star game away from Charlotte, "The best role for the league to play here is through constructive engagement towards change. Not setting deadlines, not making ultimatums, but working with the private sector and government to affect change in North Carolina." (link); The NBA Board of Governors approved a three-year pilot program that will allow teams to sell a corporate logo on their jerseys starting in 2017-18. The 2.5" x 2.5" space for sale makes the NBA the first of the four major leagues to put ads on regular game-day attire. (link)

AD for Finance & Administration Gross is getting his feet under him as the new AD at Carroll College (NAIA) (link); And yet one more on UWM as the Panthers re-upped with Adidas (link); Check out this story in the New York Times about the power of fans. In this case it was a supporter of NBA stand-out Jeremy Lin who put together a reel of hard fouls against Lin that generated so much buzz that the league responded (link)
