This week’s update includes:- Queen Isabels Avenue Enforcement Notice; Communal Bin Collections; Tree on Black Prince Ave/ Arundel Rd; Cheylesmore Good Neighbours’ Tea Party; Queen Isabel’s Avenue/ Daventry Road Junction - Road Surface; Wrigsham Street Rubbish; Whitley South Planning Meeting; Upcoming Road Works in our Area; Whitley Abbey Primary School & Tiverton School Proposals; My Peaceful Place in Coventry; Coventry Independent Advice Service; World Book Night; Planning Applications for Friargate Area; HM Revenue & Customs; Check the MOT History of a Vehicle; Rogue Traders Crackdown; Product Recall; Diary; Useful Links. And Finally ….

Queen Isabels Avenue Enforcement Notice
For months Hazel & Roger have received many complaints from residents about 9 Queen Isabels Avenue with respect to the building works taking place, parking of vehicles, damage to a protected tree, rubbish etc etc. These were all passed on to the relevant officers who spent months preparing and following lengthy legal procedures in order to produce an enforcement notice against the owners.

On Friday the enforcement notice was served. It comes into effect on 15th May and the owners then have 6 months to comply.

Here is a snippet of what the notice contains

Communal Bin Collections
This week a resident reported that a large sized domestic bin had not been emptied for some time, from a rear shared access area in Fenside and that rubbish was piling up in bags by the container. Mark reported this problem to officers and the refuge container and plastic bags were cleared within a few hours. Everyone was pleased by the quick response.

A similar problem was reported to Roger about a large bin in Abbey Court that hadn’t been emptied for a while. This was due to several problems: the bin had a broken wheel plus it had been filled with furniture so bags of rubbish were being left blocking access to the bin.

This required a “two pronged attack”: The management company was contacted & they agreed to remove the overflow bags leaving the way clear for Waste Services to empty the large bin.

The resident called to say ‘Thank you for the exceptional service provided, superb job done’.
Roger's secretary also worked on this which helped to speed up the process.

Tree on Black Prince Ave/ Arundel Rd
Roger met with a number of people on Friday to discuss a tree located on Black Prince Avenue/ Arundel Road and the possible effect of its roots on nearby houses.

Much discussion took place about the cause of the structural issues with the houses.

A further meeting is planned to discuss the future of the tree with interested parties.

Cheylesmore Good Neighbours’ Tea Party
On Friday Mark & Roger attended the Tea Party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, which was organised by Cheylesmore Good Neighbours at Quinton Park Baptist Church Hall.

There was a good attendance & everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. A film about the Queen's life was shown and also a quiz took place. Roger was asked to “crown the queen” and to “Toast The Queen”.

Queen Isabel’s Avenue/Daventry Road Junction - Road Surface
Hazel reported to officers that there are holes and loose tarmac when turning from Daventry Road into Queen Isabel’s Avenue.

The officer has now raised a job for some 'reactive repairs'. There is no date yet for these works as it requires further inspection.

Wrigsham Street Rubbish

A few weeks ago, Mark sent these photos to the Council explaining that neighbours have reported ongoing issues with rubbish and of broken glass on the pavements/ road outside these properties.

After much chasing Mark has been informed that this mess has now been cleared.

Check the MOT History of a Vehicle
The government has recently launched a new website that allows users to check the entire MoT history and mileage of a vehicle for free.

It gives detailed information of the car's MoT history, the mileage when tested, and whether the car passed or not. If a vehicle has failed an MoT, the site will divulge details and give reasons for the failure.

Also, important advisory notices, such as worn brake pads, tyre tread depth and noisy exhausts are also highlighted to improve consumer confidence when buying a car.

It doesn't give details of accidents or insurance claims.

And Finally   St. George in Coventry? 14th Century Propoganda
One of the oldest surviving examples of spin will take pride of place at the St Georges Day Open Day, Saturday April 23 at the beautiful St John the Baptist Church, Fleet St Coventry.

In the late fourteenth century, Coventry was beginning to lag behind several English cities in the pilgrimage stakes, despite its large number of Churches and Monasteries.

So the story was hatched amongst the religious elders that England’s patron saint, St George, whose standing was soaring due to English military successes, was born in Coventry! Extracted from the Coventry Society website. Read more
