Fast forward 2050
|
|
Evan reflects on PATA’s impressive 65 years of history and also looks ahead to 2050.
“The 65th anniversary of the Pacific Asia Travel Association is truly a momentous occasion. From its founding in 1951, PATA has grown to be a leader in tourism advocacy research and events in the Asia Pacific region and beyond. PATA provides a unified voice for member chapters, organisations and individuals to guide the tourism industry. On behalf of the PATA Hawai’i board and members, I offer wholehearted congratulations.”
Looking forward...
“By 2050, Hawai'i will have reinvented itself many times over to cater to emerging markets and guests preferences. Its role will expand as a Pacific crossroads and cultural melting pot, continuing to integrate culture and aloha in its identity.” |

PATA UPDATES
Hoteliers face taxing issues in China
Hotel owners and operators in China are preparing for a significant change in taxation rule from May 1, 2016. This date marks the introduction of Value Added Tax on so-called 'lifestyle services' in China embracing F&B, hotels, travel services and spas. A bulletin issued by KPMG states that businesses operating under the heading of lifestyle services will pay VAT at six percent. They are currently subject to a Business Tax of five percent - although it must be stressed that these two taxes are assessed on different bases.
KPMG advises that whilst most services offered by the hospitality sector will be subject to a uniform six percent VAT 'they will still need to unbundle and portion their package prices for the purposes of issuing special VAT invoices for their non F&B components such as accommodation, conferences and events'.
PATA's senior management team is monitoring this issue in tandem with Board members and the Association's hospitality Committee. More details. |

PATA CEO BLOG: "Ubuntu" - We are because you are, and since you are, I am |
|
I have just returned from South Africa where I heard for the first time the term ‘Ubuntu’ which means we are because you are, and since you are, I am. This refers to our humanness or our humanity towards others. To me this represents what PATA is all about. I joined this organisation to share our humanity with others and help destinations and communities develop tourism as a mean to improve people’s lives. |
