This week we're also looking at how children can improve their hand strength and coordination through play. This is known as fine motor control, and is important for things like writing and using cutlery to feed themselves.

Toys and Play

Arts and crafts are great for improving fine motor control, from drawing and cutting with scissors to shaping clay.  

As children get older, more detailed crafts such as Hama beads can continue to support hand-eye coordination.

Apps and Tech

For young children, apps that require tapping and dragging can support fine motor skills.

Look out for creative apps with stickers and drawing tools, jigsaw puzzles, and letter/number tracing games.
