D.A.R.E. Fund Has Awarded $125,000 to Youth Drug Education Programs
St. Cloud, Minn. –The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) Fund of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF) reached a milestone today by having granted over $125,000 to local drug education programs supported by law enforcement since the fund was started in 1994.  The Benton County Sheriff, Cold Spring Police Department, Saint Cloud Police Department, Sartell Police Department, Sherburne County Sheriff, and Stearns’s County Sheriff all received grants for 2016 totaling $7,050.

Ernie  and Terri Wollak, of Wollak Construction started the DARE Fund back in 1994.  Through his construction company and with the support of local community businesses and individuals, they built a home, sold it and used the proceeds to start this fund to benefit Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Programs conducted in Central Minnesota by the police and sheriff departments.  By starting the fund with the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, Wollak wanted these dollars to be invested and be used to benefit several communities into perpetuity.

This year, the grants awarded from this fund are being used to provide drug education programming to over 3000 students in 30 school districts in central Minnesota.

The Central Minnesota Community Foundation (CMCF), an affiliate of CommunityGiving, is a public charity that attracts and administers charitable funds for the benefit of the local community.
