Round 2 Results - Beaches at University

Premier 1:  Lost 27 - 41  Highlights HERE
Premier 2:  Won 12 - 10
Premier 3: Won 33 - 0
Womens: Hunter Rep trials at Walters Park.

Premier 1:

After a fantastic but tough start to the game, Uni looked dominant and strong across the park, racing to a 15-0 lead. Due to some unfavorable calls, inexperience in the squad, and an inability to close out set plays, the Beaches boys found some holes and put on some quick points to turn the game to their favour. Second half, Uni were up by one (15 - 14) but missed a few tackles and Beaches increased took the lead. After a slight altercation, Beaches had a man sent for an early shower and Uni found a bit of their mongrel and started to hit back hard. A try in the last half of second half saw Uni's attitude spark and once again, started to look dominant. Unfortunately, Uni then had a man sent to the bin too and time just ran out for the boys.

Players Player and Best & Fairest points were as follows:
  • PP - Billy Freeman - 3, Scott Hamilton - 2, Joseph Crawford - 2, Newton Tanyanyiwa - 1.
  • B&F - Newton Tanyanyiwa - 3, Billy Freeman - 2, Joseph Crawford - 1.
  • Anderson Medal - Newton Tanyanyiwa - 2

Premier 2:

An important win to the Uni Second grade boys. A tough and grueling game that was fortunate to come out in Uni's favour - the difference being a late sideline conversion to Lachlan Vaughan.  At times the boys couldn't close out their set plays and Beaches jumped at the opportunities making the crowd very nervous at times, however, Uni were just too good and held them out until the end. The boys stuck with it right until the 80 minute whistle was blown and this was evident in their 2 point victory. Great work guys.

Players Player and Best & Fairest points were as follows:
  • PP - Hugh Moriarty - 3, James Readford - 2, Bradley Roberts - 1

Premier 3:

Well, Thirsty Thirds sure were there for the win. A massive 33 - 0 victory saw a number of horses cross the glorious white line to secure a comfortable victory for the students. Some special mentions to prop Chris Reilly, who gained TWO meat pies for the Seahorses (one may need to be reviewed), Darcy Barker, and Jack Rixon, who dominated the field and more importantly, the opposition. The boys can focus on letting the ball do the work across the park but be proud of their strength in line outs, scrums, and plays through the backs. Well done guys.

Players Player and Best & Fairest points were as follows:
  • PP - Christopher Reilly - 3, Jack Rixon - 2, Darcy Barker - 1
  • B&F - Hugh Moriarty - 3, Rylan Gibson - 2,  Cameron Handley - 1,  Marcus Westoby - 1.

2016 NHRU Round 2 Highlights UNI v Southern Beaches

Medical Cover

Uni Rugby participates in the ARU Sports Injury and Liability Insurance Plan with an Insurance Levy payable annually based on number of teams.

Whilst the plan provides basic levels of cover for players and others participating in Rugby, it is not all encompassing (this is necessary to keep the cost of insurance affordable) and does not seek to replace the need for private health and other insurances.

ARU and Uni Rugby encourages all players and officials to take out their own private health insurance (with ambulance cover), life insurance and ‘Top Up’ coverage over and above the coverage provided under this plan.  Speak to your current health fund provider – students may be able to remain covered under their parents/family policy. Non-students should also consider income protection insurance.

It’s not an exciting topic for our newsletter; however we’re not playing Ultimate Frisbee.
