Ivy Chimneys Primary School's 'Smartie challenge' raises almost £1,000 for The Dream Factory
Children at Ivy Chimneys Primary School raised almost £1,000 for The Dream Factory charity by taking part in their very own Smartie challenge.
The school's School Council chose the charity, which makes dreams come true for children and young adults with lfe-limiting conditions.
The schoool's fundraising effort saw the children collect as many 20p coins as they could in empty Smartie tubes.
Their efforts raised £988.15.
The charity's founder, Avril Mills, visited the school to launch the fundraising and returned to be presented with the money and to thank the children for their efforts.
Avril spoke at an assembly where the children learnt about the work of the charity and the value of bringing happiness and making dreams come true.
The fundraising effort was co-ordinated by the Friends of Ivy Chimneys which collected and counted the money to find out which class had raised the most.
Chestnut class raised £180.45 and were the first winners of the FoICs fundraising trophy.
Headeacher Jonathan Furness said: "We are truly delighted that the children nominated The Dream Factory as the chosen charity for this year. It was clear that when our children saw that there were children less fortunate than themselves, they immediately wanted to help.
"Our families set about raising as much money as they can and we are thrilled that the whole school community responded so generously."
Miss Mills said: "A massive thank you to everyone at Ivy Chimneys Primary School who took part in the fundraising.
"We rely on donations to help make dreams come true and this money will go towards ensuring that we are able to fulfill more of the dream requests that the charity regularly receives."
