VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering is key to GRYC’s operation. Every adult member is expected to contribute two days per year.

There is a wide range of volunteer activities that are suitable for different skills and age levels. Volunteering is made easy through an on-line sign-up system. Go to gryc.ivolunteer.com and scroll down through the listed events and activities. Click on any one to see the tasks that need to be done and job descriptions. When you sign up for a task or event, you will receive an email confirming your sign-up along with the name and email address of the coordinator or board member to contact for more information.

Please, when registering on iVolunteer, enter your membership number. This will help us avoid the problem of multiple last names per family, multiple spellings of names, multiple emails for different family members.

QUEBEC SAILING FEDERATION BOAT SAFETY COURSE

A motorboat safety course offered by the Quebec Sailing Federation will once again be held at the GRYC this year on May 21st (full day). This course is recommended for anyone new to being a safety boat operator. The Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC) is a requirement for taking this course.

This course covers essential lifesaving maneuvers on the water like man overboard, aiding and assisting a capsized sailboat as well as towing. It is also a great opportunity to get familiar with using the safety boats at the GRYC. The course will be taught by an instructor from the Quebec Sailing Federation and at the end, participants will receive an official certification.

The cost of the course is $60.00. To register, please contact Warren Place at
manager@gryc.ca before May 7th.

FACILITIES DIRECTOR UPDATE:

The club, grounds and docks have survived another winter and in a mere 6 days, another sailing season will commence with Bridge Down. I thought that this would be a good opportunity to highlight some of the facilities activities that will be going on at the club this year.

Up first, will be the task of levelling the cat walk. This heavy work will commence this Thursday, May 5 and should be completed by the end of the day. Please note that this activity will restrict access to the island throughout the day.

Save the date - Saturday May 28th.: This day is important as it is the only day this spring when the municipality of Chelsea will be chipping and shredding branches, and we have quite a bit this year. We will be looking for a volunteer or two with trailers who would be willing to transport our branch debris to the Chelsea municipal yard. More to follow on i-Volunteer. Speaking of i-Volunteer, there will be a number of small to medium activities posted in the coming weeks. Apart from looking for volunteers, we will also be looking for members to be the lead for many of the volunteer activities.

Thank-you in advance for your efforts and for your assistance. See you all at Bridge Down!
