Congregation's Mission Project Brings Comfort to Victims
of Child Abuse

Today is the Presbytery of Western New York's Mission Yearbook day - here is our story this year:

Being mindful of mission opportunities locally as well as worldwide, we discovered such an opportunity one day when we stumbled upon a group gathered in our local mall, creating tied fleece blankets. The recipient of these blankets was the Southern Tier Child Advocacy Center, which provides multidisciplinary services in cases of child abuse. When children come to the center, the staff provides them with comforting items—a toy, a book, a fleece blanket. What a comfort a fuzzy blanket can be! The idea of creating blankets to benefit the center was brought to the mission committee of First Presbyterian Church of Portville, New York, and voilà! The Fun Fleece Festival was born!

In its ninth year, the Fun Fleece Festival is an ecumenical and intergenerationalevent. Local churches and community members are invited to participate. Men, women, and children pitch in to help, and what a great bonding event it is! Stories are shared, food is eaten, and many, many blankets are made. Who benefits? Certainly the children serviced by the Southern Tier Child Advocacy Center. But all who participate in the Fun Fleece Festival benefit in a big way! What a good feeling to know that the blanket you created will help a child through a very tough time in his or her life.

Summer Campership Application

Spring is almost here which means summer is just around the corner and so is the camping season!  Please post applications for Christian Camping in your church newsletters and areas where families gather so they are able to avail themselves of an application for a camp scholarship!  Summertime is a great opportunity for children and youth to learn about the story of God's love; the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Spirit's work in the world in outdoor based settings.  Please note that applications received after JUNE 1 will not be considered.  If you have any questions or wish to have applications mailed to you; please contact Linda Babcock at lindab@oppchurch.org

Jericho Road Global Gala

Jericho Road Community Health Center, Buffalo's growing global health care ministry, will be holding its annual GLOBAL GALA on Friday June 10th at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Downtown Buffalo to raise moneys for its African clinics.

This year's GLOBAL GALA celebrates Jericho's Sierra Leone clinic that began saving lives and caring for the people of that west African nation in February 2015.  The Sierra Leone clinic averages almost 100 patients each day.

Jericho Road will be opening its second global clinic in 2016.  The new clinic will be caring for children and youth in the Democratic Republic of the Congo whose lives have been devastated by poverty, war, and terrorism.

Your church can help support these global ministries by purchasing a table at the Gala (8 seats for $500), individual seats ($75), or becoming a sponsor at http://www.jrchc.org/Support/Events.aspx.  For additional information call 716-348-3000 extension 407.
