Welcome to the Winter 2016 issue of Japan Travel News, dedicated to bringing you the latest on destination Japan. While it's cooling down here, things are just starting to warm up in Japan, and with the summer comes fun, fireworks and festivals. Gion Matsuri 
Gion Matsuri is one of the oldest festivals in Japan and one of the greatest. Traditional rituals and events related to this amazing festival are held throughout the month of July in Kyoto. One of the festival highlights is the festival parade (Yamaboko Junko) which takes place on 17th July and 24th July.

Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival

A festival with a difference. More akin to a race than a parade, watch as teams carry decorative floats weighing about 1 ton each and try to complete a 5km course in the fastest time.
