THIS SUNDAY: SCIENCE SUNDAY II
May 1 is the day Nicolous Copernicus published his theory of heliocentrism - the idea that the earth rotates around the sun rather than the other way around. It was the beginning of a revolution in thought. It is also the birthday of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the theologian who successfully combined Roman Catholic theology and evolution, regarding evolution not only a physical reality but a spiritual one. On Sunday we will mark these and other milestones in science that shape how we understand our world. Our worship leader is a mathematician, the children's message will involve physics, and the choir will provide special music. We will also hear a special message from our Presbyterian Camp in Holmes, NY.
SUNDAY SCIENCE FAIR
During Coffee hour, scientists in our midst will share their interests and research. Children will share their recent research, soon-to-be Manhattanville College graduate Natcha Rummaneethorn will share her award winning work "Modulation of adult neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation by TMPyP4," and physicist Kaarli Tasso will continue her explanation of why the sky is blue. Speaking of blue skies, representatives from our Holmes camp and Conference Center will be on hand to talk about summer camps and their capital campaign.
THE BEATITUDES: A COURSE FOR ADULTS
On Sunday, Dr. Barbara Horan will lead the second part of a bible study on Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Based on the thoughtful and thought-provoking book by Princeton Professor George Hunsinger.
