GRAND SLAM OPEN HOUSE

Summer Reading is just around the corner! "On Your Mark, Get Set... READ!" is the theme of our program this year. Join us on Saturday, June 18 from 1- 2:30 p.m. for the Summer Reading Kick-Off!

Attend the kick-off to sign up for summer reading, pick up a reading game sheet, find out about all the great programs and activities planned for the summer, including concerts, games, and of course, reading.

Families, teens, and adults are encouraged to stop by the Community Room and meet the Detroit Lions’ mascot Roary and Benny the Blackhawk, the Bloomfield Hills High School mascot from 1-2 p.m.  Roary and Benny want to see everyone signing up for summer reading and events!

SUMMER READING: ON YOUR MARK, GET SET . . . READ!

The Grand Slam Open House is just the beginning!  Throughout the summer there will be programs, activities, stories, games, and adventures. Our summer schedule will provide information on registration, ages, and dates.  Sign up to help with the veggie garden on the terrace, learn theater basics with the 4th Wall Theatre Workshop, and use apps on the library’s iPads to code a simple game. Learn Zentangle techniques and make sports-themed crafts. Have fun at the Paw Patrol Party and the Nursery Rhyme Olympics! Look for a book discussion, the 5th Annual Scavenger Hunt, healthy snacks for Fresh Foodies, yoga, Muggle Quidditch, and even some Grossology!

You can drop in for storytimes and Lego™ Club, participate in a writing contest on being strong, and have the chance to design and build your own fitness-inspired invention. Come to a comedy show, a Frisbee demonstration, and a concert. Party with Pete the Cat and get wet during the Splash Bash. Finally, be here for the concluding ice cream social with singers from the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit.

The Summer Reading Program runs from June 18 through August 6, followed by a Book Bash from August 8 – 15, for all who have met their self-assigned reading goals. Be sure to get your ticket! Prizes are also available all summer as activities on the game sheet are completed.

MEET THE YOUTH SERVICES STAFF: JENNIFER

Hi!  My name is Jennifer, and I started working as the Youth Services Clerical Assistant in January, 2016.  As the library is one of my favorite places to be, I absolutely love my job!  Since I enjoy being creative, you’ll often find me organizing the new children’s books and putting together fun bulletin board displays. When I was younger, I attended many programs at our local library and in my teens I enjoyed working as a page at that same library.  Knowing how many wonderful things a library has to offer, I also enrolled my three children in many story time and other programs as they were growing up.  When not reading, I enjoy gardening, watching movies with my family, and online scrapbooking.
