WisconsinEye Enters 10th Year of State Policy Programming
With Special Series on Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia

As it enters its 10th year of gavel-to-gavel coverage of state Capitol proceedings, WisconsinEye is expanding its civic enterprise programming: coverage of newsmakers, issues and events that impact citizens and communities statewide.

Dealing with Dementia is a special 12-part series premiering on May 2 at 7:00 p.m. WisconsinEye examines what the state’s top health official calls “the largest public health epidemic in the world.”

Dealing with Dementia is available on demand at wiseye.org & on cable channels Time Warner 363 and Charter 995.

More than 20% of Wisconsin workers are caregivers who need flexible work schedules, more time off, or less stressful jobs.
Three out of every four Wisconsinites with dementia currently live in their homes. If they did not, the cost of caring for them would bankrupt public health care spending.
The number of residents with dementia will double in 20 years. That will most hurt the 18 northern counties, where more than one-third of residents will be over age 65 by 2040.

“This was not an easy conversation to capture. We are grateful for those brave families who invited us into their homes and care facilities to hear their stories,” says WisconsinEye president Jon Henkes. “Dementia affects everyone in Wisconsin. You, or someone you know has a loved one dealing with changes in memory, judgment, reasoning, language, mood or personality.”

The series meets some of the spouses, family members and friends who are jeopardizing their own physical, mental and financial health
caring for those with dementia.

Dealing with Dementia premieres May 2nd at 7 pm
