eWIC Update:
eWIC live in Pueblo


Congratulations to Pueblo WIC - the first eWIC agency in Colorado! Pueblo WIC staff held a training day on Monday, April 18, and began issuing eWIC cards to participants on Tuesday, April 19. Pueblo staff enthusiastically recommended all Colorado WIC agencies participate in practice shopping buys.

From the Director


The Colorado WIC program has experienced declines in participation since 2009. Colorado WIC ranks 48th in the nation for access to the WIC program, with only 48 percent of the eligible population enrolled (national average is 60.2 percent.) For this reason, increasing program participation has been selected as a priority for the program during the next three to five years.

Emotions Drive Decisions


Dealing with facts is often easier than dealing with emotions. Facts are simple, straightforward and uncomplicated. We can show on a prenatal chart if a mother is gaining too fast, too slow or just right. We can share that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends fat-free or 1% milk for children over 2 years. And yet, when making day-to-day decisions, people often rely on emotions.

Jefferson County WIC Hosts Mothers' Milk Bank


Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) is happy to announce it is opening a human milk donation and outreach center at its WIC Program’s Lakewood location. This is the first WIC Program in Colorado to host a breast milk donation and outreach center. JCPH WIC partnered with Arvada-based Mothers' Milk Bank (MMB) to make this service available for all moms wishing to donate milk locally to help save lives.

The Family Healthline is a statewide telephone resource for parents, women, and families to find information about health care providers, programs, and services. The Healthline helps callers, especially pregnant women and their families, find needed healthcare for themselves and their children by providing up-to-date information about many financial and health programs.
