NEW HIRE AT SC TO HELP WITH NATIONAL $5 MILLION COMPETITION
SC is pleased to introduce our newest (returning) staff member, Anne Bremer! As SC’s Program Manager for the Claremont Energy Challenge, she will be implementing programs designed to reduce Claremont’s energy usage, with the goal of making Claremont a finalist in the $5 million Georgetown University Energy Prize.
We have until December to make it into the top ten, so Anne needs your help! If you would like more information or are interested in becoming involved with the Claremont Energy Challenge, please contact Anne at abremer@sustainableclaremont.org or (909) 447-9664.

SC at CUSD
The Garden Club and Schools Action Groups both presented at the April Board of Education meeting of the Claremont Unified School District.  The Garden Club awarded Oakmont Elementary, Vista del Valle Elementary, and Claremont High School for their gardens featured in the past three Garden Tours.
The Schools Action Group recognized the work of CUSD students and staff in designing, installing, and maintaining sustainable landscaping and garden art at all the schools.  They awarded Green Team leaders and thanked school Eco Teams for helping Claremont win the CoolCalifornia Challenge.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
On April 23 we had a great time at Claremont's Earth Day Celebration and hope you did too!  Thank you to all the community groups, vendors, performers, and city agencies who participated, and to our volunteers and sponsors for making it possible.  There were many terrific childrens' activities, opportunities to become more sustainable, enjoyable performances, and delicious food.  If you missed it, let's celebrate next year!

BEAUTIFUL GARDEN TOUR
Beautiful Claremont Gardens were toured on April 24, including a Claremont High School landscape.  Thank you to the gardeners who allowed us to relax and be inspired in their landscapes.  Also to Garden Club volunteers for making it possible.  Don't forget, your ticket gets you into RSABG another day in May!
