¿Cuánto tardamos en encariñarnos?

¿Qué es lo que nos hace coger cariño? Sin duda, el tiempo y la intensidad con la que compartimos momentos y experiencias.

Esto es exactamente lo que ocurre con nuestros animales del Minizoo. Cada día, a lo largo del tiempo de recreo, muchos de nuestros alumnos eligen invertir ese tiempo en los animalitos: cuidándoles, alimentándoles, limpiando sus hogares y dándoles todo el cariño del que son capaces, que es mucho. 

Eso hace que se cree un vínculo muy especial entre ellos ya que, no solo se les conoce como partes de una especie determinada, sino como individuos de dicha especie con sus características. Os citamos algunos de ellos para que los conozcáis un poquito. 

A nuestro conejito Tambor le encanta estar tranquilo y descansar. 

Peluchito, sin embargo, es mucho más activo ya que le gusta que le abracen, le acaricien y es un estupendo pívot encestando lápices.

Shadow, nuestra pequeña chinchilla, es muy inquieto y lo pasa en grande dándose baños de arena. Sin embargo,  su madre Coquita es feliz en su casa dando saltos de un lugar a otro. 

Chocolate, una de nuestras cobayitas, disfruta comiendo y siendo acariciada.  A Totu, su amiga, le encanta que le toques la cabecita, mostrándonos agradecimiento con su curioso y divertido idioma. 

Y así, con nuestros pájaros, tortugas, geckos, nuestra querida pogona Alessandro... Todos tienen algo que los hace únicos y especiales, al igual que cada uno de nosotros.

Our favourite family recipes’ project

 A few weeks ago, we received an invitation from St John’s School in the UK. They asked us to participate in a cooperative project, the creation of a cookbook made with the students’ favourite family recipes, to raise money for a local charity called War Child.

Most of our Primary students love cooking, so when we told them about this project they loved the idea and, although they have been busy studying for their evaluation exams these days, they were really happy to share their elaborate recipes with our sister school and collaborate with such a good cause.

Un Día Abierto quijotesco

     El pasado viernes vivimos una tarde llena de actividades en nuestro segundo Día Abierto. Bajo el tema genérico de "Don Quijote de la Mancha", disfrutamos de animaciones teatrales, lectura continuada de El Quijote, manualidades y más de una sorpresa. Unas horas donde grandes y pequeños disfrutamos de lo lindo compartiendo nuestros trabajos del Colegio. Como siempre, un momento muy entrañable para toda la familia de Colegios SEK.

Isp visit to Miami sea aquarium

Our International Student Program (ISP) compliments their weekly activities with visits to local malls, theatres, special events and sites of cultural or historic interest and a trip to the Orlando Parks.  These trips are always organized under the guidance and supervision of the ISP Coordinator.
The students had the opportunity to visit Miami Sea Aquarium were it offers a wealth of interactive and educational activities in South Florida.  They learned about the ocean’s most loved marine animals through their variety of shows.  Also, they were inspired by the marine mammals’ behaviors.  In each show they learned about each mammal’s lifestyle and what we can do to help out, for example, protecting our waters from trash and recycling when possible.  The students had close encounters with Sea Lions, Manatees, Dolphins, Killer Whale, Penguins, Manta Ray, Turtles, Parrots and much more.
Here is what some of the students had to say about their experience at Miami Sea Aquarium.
“My experience at Miami Sea Aquarium was incredible and fun.  I really enjoyed it because this isn’t something we see on our daily life.  I like the way people can interact and learn about the animals there.  The show I enjoyed the most was the one of Flipper because I really love Dolphins.  I think Flipper was fun and an intelligent mammal.  Also, I loved this experience because there are different animals in different areas and we are able to know about them or their rescue.” Nicole Moya Carranza
“My experience was incredible because it was something new, wonderful and beautiful.  The show that I liked best was the one with the dolphins, especially the one with Flipper.  I have no words to describe this experience.  It was amazing and unique because I have never seen dolphins.  I really loved this experience!” Karla Mishelle Viteri

Junior School Circus Day!

        On Thursday 14th April, Steve from "Circus Into Schools" visited us for a Circus Day, funded by the PTFA as a reward to all Junior School children for their hard work so far this year. On behalf of all the children- a huge THANK YOU!
 
Firstly, Steve performed some of his own skills, showing Stanley how to make Katy float in the air, held up by only a balloon, then he cycled on top of a huge unicycle while juggling! 
 
Throughout the day each class had time to learn new circus tricks such as juggling, plate spinning, hula-hooping, poi and diabolo. The children really impressed everyone in the afternoon by performing what they had learnt - and the student council has now decided to ask if the PTFA would buy them some of the circus toys to play with at break times!
