President's Message
Hello friends,
As I write you from Schoodic Point, we're diving headlong into a busy season of research and education programs, and welcoming a wide array of groups to our campus to inspire their work. This month alone, we're hosting conservation groups, and natural resource management agencies, along with research retreats and education programs from Universities.
Friday morning I had the pleasure to have breakfast side by side with students from Sumner High School's Pathways program. These remarkably polite and well- behaved young people from our local communities joined us at Schoodic for three days of education experiences with Kate, Alexa, and Hannah at the start of a new partnership between Schoodic Institute and the Pathways program focused on science and experiential learning. We look forward to developing this partnership, sharing, and learning with our local students. Many of them had previously visited as middle schoolers for the Schoodic Education Adventure.

Citizen Science Professional Development
Pilot Program a Success
In April Schoodic wrapped up its pilot citizen science professional development course. The course, designed in partnership with the National Park Service, and specific to NPS personnel, served as an incubator for participants to develop citizen science program plans that were specific to their parks and goals.
"We are looking forward to taking what we've learned from this pilot course and this great group of people, refining, and offering the course again," said Hannah Webber, course developer. Read more about this first-of-its-kind development course here.

Welcoming Peter Collier
Advancement Associate
Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park is pleased to announce the hiring of Peter Collier as Advancement Associate. Peter will manage Institute donor relations and fundraising. Born in Bar Harbor, Peter was raised nearby in Surry, and went to high school at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. One of his first summer jobs was with the Acadia Youth Conservation Corps, an experience that sparked his interest in building community through natural resources protection. Peter graduated from Kenyon College in 2004 and brings professional experience in urban community gardens development, volunteer coordination for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, as well as office administration at a nonprofit land trust.

Schoodic Institute sourcing food closer to home
Schoodic Institute is changing the focus of the menu in Schooner Commons. A “Farm to cafeteria” movement is changing the culture of food and agricultural literacy across America in schools, universities, hospitals and other institutional settings. It is being embraced by Schoodic Institute, which serves groups large and small on its campus. A recent soup and salad bar for 30 hungry guests at a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service three-day conference had to have something for everyone: meat eaters, vegetarians, gluten-free foods and dairy-free selections, among others.
