CHAPEL OFFERINGS:
2015-2016 Chapel Projects:

Students this year will be able to support various chapel projects, to help give them an understanding of how they can help Christians here at home, or throughout the world.  For fourth quarter, our 7th and 8th grade classes designated our school offerings to go to a mission project that is dear to their hearts -- Camp Omega in Waterville, Minnesota.  Camp Omega offers many opportunities for children and adults to spend time in God's beautiful world with outdoor education opportunities, camp activities, Bible Studies and Christian fellowship.  No child is turned away because of financial hardships.

According to Camp Omega:
  • Camp Omega is a place of God's ministry and changing lives for more than 50 years!

  • We are blessed to see the Lord use this place to build long-lasting relationships, enrich the Christian faith of many individuals, and partnering with the congregations of Minnesota.

  • At Camp Omega, campers, get to experience God's creation and the Truth of His Word through skits, Bible studies, and faith-filled activities that engage and excite.
What a wonderful way to help children in our world to grow both physically and spiritually healthy!

Please help with our offerings to support this child-centered Christian Camp!

TOTAL 4th QUARTER OFFERINGS:  $86.17

KINDERGARTEN NEWS:

We believe that Jesus died and rose again. 1 Thessalonians 4:14

Christ has risen! He has risen indeed Alleluia! This week we have been learning about when Jesus visited the disciples. They were locked in a small room Easter evening and Jesus appeared, telling them, “Peace be with you.” Thomas was not their that night, so when he found out what had happened, he didn’t believe them! After a week, Jesus came to Thomas. He told Thomas, “ Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed!” John 20:29b. We don’t have the chance to see Jesus alive in person, however we still believe that He has saved us from our sins because of His Word.

On Wednesday, we had our K-2 track and field day. Even though it was cold, we still had a lot of fun! :) We are excited for the book fair that will be coming next week. We have also been getting ready for our Fine Arts night next Tuesday by practicing our songs and getting our art projects together. We are very excited! :) Library books are due back on Tuesday. I hope everyone has a great and blessed weekend!

1ST AND 2ND GRADE:

We were teased by spring early on and now we need coats and sweatshirts again. That did not stop us from our Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade track meet. These students have been practicing the events for several weeks. There were no complaints when they had to run the marathon (one time around the park) in under three minutes. Thank you Mr. Jacobson for working with them during their PE time. If you weren't able to attend, the events also included standing long jump, balance beam, distance throw, bean bag toss, and a relay. The students were given wrist bands with the list of their events and the order of them, along with their team names. It's a nice opportunity for the younger students since the conference track meet only involves grades three through eight. Thanks also for the older students who manned the events.

Of course, the track meet did not dictate all of our time. We are right on track to finish every Bible story in our religion book; also learning about pronouns, articles a and an, plural nouns, patterns, fractions, money, Susan B. Anthony, magnets, and for creative writing, we each wrote a little note to God about things we'd like to know.

3rd and 4th Grade News:

Phew!! We are traveling from one busy week into the next. Some of our students have been VERY busy over the weekend with spelling bees and musicals. There is more excitement coming this way, as the 3rd and 4th grade class prepare for the Fine Arts Fair, bookstore times, and choir dates to sing to the Lord. However, tests, quizzes and assignments are still coming in. These final weeks will be a race to the finish line as we wrap up our chapters and classroom discussions. Where will we go? What will we do? Only time will tell…

Math this week finished off the multiplication era as we begin to transfer to division. In science, the class learns about food chains and food webs. Social Studies will continue to introduce government and its importance. For art, the class got together to create an underwater ecosystem/environment.

5th and 6th Grade:

This week we finished up our study of worship by talking about confirmation and liturgical arts.  We are now beginning a section on the second part of the Law - how we are to be with our neighbors.  In Science, we studied the different shapes of different galaxies - including spiral, elliptical, and irregular.  We mainly then talked about the Milky Way.  In Social Studies, we finished up our study of the beginning of the American Revolution, which started at Lexington and Concord and then went to Bunker Hill.  We learned about transversals, ratios, functions, angle measures, and negative numbers in Math.  We enjoyed heping with the younger students on their Track and Field Day on Tuesday, and we learned quite a bit about Law on Law Day as we observed and participated in a mock trial at the Courthouse on Thursday.
7th and 8th Grade

Only one month left of school until summer break, but here at school, we are still hard at work! This week in history class we finished up our papers on Native Americans, both past and present. Reading through the students papers, I can tell they learned a lot about Native Americans and how they lived their lives here before us. In health class we are on conflict resolution, learning how to be an active listener, and how to resolve conflicts in a healthy manner, rather than a violet one. In literature class we finished up out story and review questions on, "Who Can Replace A Man?" This was a story based on machines that run the world in the future after humans become extinct. Also, in literature, we did our weekly current event from USA Today, allowing the students to choose a news article that interests them and summarize it. In P.E. we started training for the track and field meet that is on May 13. Across the street at the Sin Clair park is where we are able to train for the long jump, shot put, 100M dash, etc. This week has been a little chilly, but the forecast for next week looks like it will warm up a little bit. Just a reminder for students and parents that next week is the month of May which means, shorts are allowed! Everyone, have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
ST. MARTIN'S ATHLETICS:

On Tuesday, both A and B teams, defeated Rochester Resurrection (RLS) in softball on a cold and windy day. Friday, Lake City travels here for a game at 4:30pm.

Just a reminder: volunteers of any sort are more than welcome to help out at the track and field meet on May 13. If you have any questions, or would like to help out, please email Mr. Jacobson at chris.jacobson@stmartinswinona.org.
