A Message From The President

April 28, 2016                       Volume 4 No. 80

NiRA Annual General Meeting is here again!

At the inception of my tenure as NiRA President, I made the commitment that we will increase our outreach and improve the quality of registration and membership services at NiRA. I am sure you will agree with me that we have walked the talk.

We will hold the 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) tomorrow, 29th April 2016, at the NiRA Office Complex. This is the first AGM I will be presiding over as your President. I am sure you are ready to join us tomorrow, to direct the affairs of our dear organization.

Looking back in the last year, all I see is progress, support and commitments of unified entities. As we hold this 8th AGM, it is important for us to note the following:

  • The Annual Report and Audited Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2015 together with the report of the Auditor thereon, would be presented.
  • The Business Plan and Budget for the financial year ending December 31, 2016 would be presented.
  • The election of a Member of the Executive Board of Directors for a vacant post will take place.

NIRA AS AN AGENT OF DEVELOPMENT IN THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECTOR IN NIGERIA

By OLASEHINDE VICTOR MOBOLUWARIN,   SCI/2014/1207, Student of Federal University Dutsin-Ma.

Imagine a student given admission by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board of Nigeria (JAMB) into the FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSINMA KATSINA STATE NIGERIA. On getting the admission letter he decided to embark on the registration guideline process in the United States of America. After some period of time, he was deported because the admission given to him was in Nigeria and not in the United States of America. Yes! He wasted his time because he was not guided through the right path. However, all was not lost as he can start afresh.

Technically this is applicable to private, commercial organizations with established companies in Nigeria but their domain name not reflecting their national identity i.e. the country in which they operate. Many of the companies are using domain names with a ".com” outside their country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD). Some companies have their domain name as www.mycompannny.com. They should be using domain names with the ".ng" string. How can they go about transformation or switchto ".ng" domain name? This is where (NIRA) comes into the scene.
