Spring is here and the wonderful sound of chainsaws trimming trees and cleaning up damaged trees is in the air. It is a great time to source raw material for your art. It is also nice to not have to heat your shop as much. So get out in the shop or studio or garage or shed or whatever you call your workspace and make something. Don't be afraid to share your creations with fellow woodturners, as that is a great way to grow. Another great way to grow is to take a workshop or pick up some new tools that allow you to create something you didn't know you had in you.

Happy Turning,
Trent

Each class has a tentative schedule, but Trent likes to work with your individual areas of interest and gear your experience around those interests. With a maximum of 4 participants, Trent can give each person the attention they need.  You can expect to learn various techniques for bowls and hollow forms as well as numerous ways to manipulate wood into the desired effect.

When looking for inspiration for a new body of work don't just look at what others have done with their woodturnings. Look outside our medium to ceramics, glass and sculpture in a variety of different medias, etc. Also don't just look for something to copy, look for work that interests you and try and incorporate the new ideas that you are exposing yourself to with ideas that you are currently pursuing. Don't expect your first attempt to turn out perfect. I sometimes make dozens of pieces with the same concept before I start to get results I am satisfied with. Enjoy your creative energy.

I would like to introduce artists that are creating interesting work in this dedicated section of my newsletter. To get this started I couldn't think of anyone better than my daughter Kailee Bosch. She is creating some outstanding work using a variety of materiels and techniques. She doesn't seem to have any hesitation when trying new things. Most of her pieces take weeks or months to complete, but the results are very cool.

From the Artist:

I have always had an appreciation and desire to create meaningful objects. Through the process of creating my work, I have a lot of time to think about what I am creating and why. For many of my pieces, I spend hours glueing the books so I am able to use a lathe and turn them. During this time, I think about the creative process and what I hope to achieve through this specific piece of art.  While creating each piece I am inspired to go on and create the next.  It is a never ending cycle.

I am proud to be part of the group of people that put on the annual RMWT symposium. If you are interested in a few days of immersing yourself in woodturning, it is a great experience. Hope to see you there.

The Rocky Mountain Woodturners are happy to announce our annual woodturning symposium to be held on September 16, 17 and 18, 2016.

There will be over 42 excellent demonstrations during the weekend from demonstrators, vendors and hands on turning. Featured demonstrators include Nick Cook, David Ellsworth, Les Brandt, Jay Shepard, Keith Gotschall, Ron Ainge, Larry Fox, and Milo Scott with more to be added soon.
