JLR Whitley South Planning Application
The outline planning permission for the JLR Whitley South application was approved at both Coventry & Warwick planning meetings last week.
Read the Coventry Telegraph’s Report of the meetings

Coventry Meeting
A resident spoke explaining her concerns about the impact on Leaf Lane.
A keen cyclist expressed his concerns about the provision of cycle routes.
Roger asked what provisions would be made for the residents of Whitley, if impacted by JLR cars.

It was stated that:
  • The development would bring Economic & Employment to the area.
  • There would be provision for better cycle routes
  • From the “106 Money” they’d allocate £150,000 for traffic calming on Leaf Lane
  • There would be money for improvements to the Allard Way/ London Road Island as there was already a traffic flow problem here.
  • If problems occurred in Whitley, as a result of the development, then there would be money available for Traffic Regulation Orders.
Warwick meeting
Mark attended the Warwick Council meeting and here’s his report:
Representations "For" the application included:
  • Coventry City Council’s Martin Yardley, spoke of the current development being ‘one fifth’ the size of the previous proposed Gateway development proposals.
  • JLR spoke of the ‘need to expand’.
  • Warwickshire Officers spoke of the ‘urgent compelling need’ for a site for JLR and that the LEP ‘backed the proposals’.
Representations "Against" the application included:
  • Stoneleigh and Ashow Councillors who stated the JLR development is a ‘Trojan Horse for further commercial development’.
  • Baginton and Bubbenhall Councillors utterly rejected the proposals.
  • District Councillors suggested the proposals were ‘in conflict’ with the Warwickshire local plan, that, as yet, had not been considered or implemented.
Hazel had submitted a proposal asking for “106 money” for Leaf Lane, as had a number of local residents.

Mark had asked that “106 funding” be given for the benefit of various community groups from within the Whitley, Stonehouse and Cheylesmore areas. The exact amount and priority for which groups receive support to be decided at an open public meeting where as many groups who are active within these areas are invited as possible and encouraged to bid for financial support.

Whitley Residents & Neighbourhood Watch Association Meeting
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 11th at 7.00pm at the Whitley Community Centre, The Avenue.
Guests:- Carolyn Claridge, the current head of Tiverton along with her Chair of Governors.

Ebbw Vale House - Sheltered Housing Block
In our 24th January update we reported that Whitefriars had relocated residents from Ebbw Vale House because the shared bathing facilities were not fit for purpose and did not meet the needs of their customers. Whitefriars engaged a Property Guardian Company to safe guard the premises prior to demolition because they didn't feel that boarding the block up would be appropriate given its locality and surroundings.

On Friday the Coventry Telegraph reported that Ebbw Vale House will be demolished this summer. Read more. Mark has made a video on the subject.

Accident on Daventry Road
Last week an elderly man was taken to hospital after a car he was driving ended up on its roof after colliding with a parked car in Daventry Road.

Postal Voters
Have you forgotten to post your Vote?
Don’t worry - fill it in as normal and take the sealed envelope to any Coventry Polling Station. Remembering that on the declaration form it’s imperative that you sign it and write your Date of Birth (not today’s date). If either is incorrect then your vote will be rejected.

Note from the Editor
I've tried to keep these Residents' Updates non-political, however the local elections are this Thursday and Hazel will be leaving our team. We hope that you’ll consider voting for Mark Taylor to replace her, as he’s already proven to be a hard worker, a campaigner for our area and a contributor to these emails.
You can read Mark's election address here.
