State v State - Pride is on the line!

Your State, Your State Championships

Did you just compete in the E - League? Why not take the skills you have just learned to the next level and enter a team in your State Championships.

You do not have to be the best team, you do not have to have aspirations to represent Australia (yet) but, you do need to have a willingness for fun. Most disciplines are covered at your State Championships and there are usually intermediate and Novice categories for new skydivers.

Check with your State Council to see if there are any incentive programs to help you enter a team. Even if you do not have a team, your State Coach will be able to place you with other teams that may be short on players.

Queensland State Championships, 29 - 31 July

Get your team together for a ripper State Championships at Innisfail, Nth Qld

The first of the State Championships for 2016 will be contested in Queensland. The titles of State Champions will be determined at Tandem Cairns in the North of the State in July. The South of the State is looking to send a strong contingent to tackle the effervescence of the Far NQ skydivers and with strong flat skills from the south and strong vertical skills from the north, we should see a great comp across all disciplines.

Don't have team, don't worry. Contact NQPC, SQPC or Tandem Cairns

Pre - State Championships Boogie and Training Camp, 23 - 28 July
Coaching for your team in preparation for the State Championships or, come for the Boogie. Either way, you will have a great time!

Airmanship - By Ken Stone

Published Skydive Mag 08 April 2016

What is Airmanship?

“Airmanship is the consistent use of good judgment and well-developed skills to accomplish flight objectives. This consistency is founded on a cornerstone of uncompromising flight discipline and is developed through systematic skill acquisition and proficiency. A high state of situational awareness completes the airmanship picture and is obtained through knowledge of one’s self, aircraft, environment, team and risk.”

Airmanship is a trait that we as skydivers should aspire to master, particularly with relation to our canopy flight. As with a pilot being aware of a powered aircraft’s abilities, the environment in which it operates, and of his/her own capabilities, we also must possess the same type of awareness and discipline when flying our canopies in order to fly safely.

WIAS Mentors Needed

Women in Adventure Sport

The Women in Adventure Sport (WIAS), program aims to support and retain women in skydiving. The program provides mentors for new skydivers and is now looking to expand.

The APF is currently seeking a sponsor and it is hoped that any sponsorship will fund marketing collateral so that the program can be easily recognised and joined effortlessly by those wanting to participate. Funding for the program will also be directed in to growing the skill base of our mentors, with the possibility of funds being made available to attend workshops and relevant courses.

Another part of the program expansion will include the Lisa Pedidchizzi Scholarship for Elite/Career Development. Lisa was an original supporter of the program and helped to develop the mentor program; always willing to learn, Lisa’s name and ethic are a perfect fit for the calibre of skydiver that would be awarded the scholarship.

To continue to develop the WIAS program, it is integral that we also have mentors. If you believe you have the skills to become a mentor to new skydivers, email Rob Libeau at development@apf.com.au for more information.
