UGIC Conference: registration is still open and new online map contest category

UGIC's 2016 Conference at Bryce is just around the corner. This annual conference is a highlight for the Utah GIS community, and a great place to learn new things, network, and have some fun with fellow geospatial enthusiasts. Registration for the May 11-13 conference is still open. Pre-conference training is May 9-10 and is filling up fast.

Every year at the conference there is a map gallery competition, and for the first time ever, UGIC is introducing an online/mapping application category. Come prepared to submit your maps and vote on your favorites!
Contributing to gis.utah.gov is the easier than ever

AGRC's new website was built using GitHub, allowing anybody with a (free!) GitHub account to submit an edit to an existing page or a new addition to gis.utah.gov. The gis.utah.gov is rooted in shared knowledge and data content from the Utah GIS community, so please consider contributing to website!

The first 10 people to contribute to gis.utah.gov's GitHub repository win a limited release mousepad! We've already received a few edits to the site, and our first guestblog.

Mark Your Calendar: UDOT/AGRC Regional Road Centerline Meetings

Utah's statewide road centerline dataset, built in partnership with local government GIS staff expertise, is a highly valued state data asset.

New program requirements in the NG911, CAD, DOT, and other application areas, warrant re-examination of the current processes for maintaining what is already excellent GIS roads data.

UDOT and AGRC have planned 4 regional discussion sessions around the state during the first week in June. If you're a road centerline data steward, you will soon receive an invitation and additional information. The tentative dates/times for these workshops are:
  • Northern Utah, June 6, 1p-5p, location TBD
  • Wasatch Front, June 7, 8:30a-12:30p, UDOT Region 2 Office
  • Southern Utah, June 8, 8:30a-12:30p, location TBD
  • Eastern Utah, June 9, 8:30a-12:30p, Price area
Utah Broadband Outreach Center Maps of the Month

Blue Stakes, the Call Before You Dig 811 Center, recently shared stats and maps for Utah dig ticket requests in 2015 for the map of the month series, published by GOED's Broadband Outreach Center.

The previous month, the mapping team worked with the Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN) to map the results of a Fall 2015 technology deployment survey, completed by Utah school districts.

The complete archive of the broadband map of the month project is accessible from the Center's blog
What do Clouds Feel Like? The Best Clouds Should Feel Familiar

AGRC has been migrating some of the SGID aerial photography collection to Google Cloud Storage (GCS). At this time historical scanned imagery and compressed countywide NAIP mosaics have been moved but you shouldn't notice the difference. We're continuing to aim for the best storage solutions for SGID data resources that balance performance, usability, complexity, and cost. More info
