Could the fifo life be for you?
This week we launched our FIFO (Fly-In-Fly-Out) information leaflet for Irish emigrants working in remote parts of Australia. The leaflet aims to highlight common issues for FIFO workers and support them to cope with the daily challenges of FIFO life.
The leaflet is based on research from Australia which has shown that some workers may be affected adversely by this lifestyle, with negative effects on their mental health and personal relationships.
Along with this, we also released a more detailed report "Challenges for FIFO worker in Australia".

Student Grants and emigration
In recent weeks, we have been getting a lot of queries about student grants for returning Irish emigrants. It is important to remember that residency rules for grants are very strict and you must be living in Ireland for 3 out of the last 5 years in order to qualify. You can check your eligibility here.
As per a statement by the Minister for Education in March 2014, children of Irish emigrants who have spent at least 5 years at primary or post-primary school in Ireland or another EU country are eligible for the EU fee rate. See here for details.

New resources for emigrants
We have updated some of our resources for those of you planning to emigrate and those of you who may be planning a return (with that special someone)!
Check out our information leaflet on the new process for applying for the International Experience Canada. There have been some big changes to this recently.
If you are planning to move home and you want to bring your non-EEA spouse or partner, then make sure to read up on our residency information for non-Irish family members. It might make things a little clearer!
