10 Schools - £140,000 raised

Thank you!  From 1,200 Children

A year after the devastating earthquake on 25 April 2015, our schools rebuilding programme is making good progress, with the work either completed or well under way. The 10 JT schools are situated in areas that were worst affected by the earthquake, either between Jiri and Lukla or in the Sindapulchowk and Rolwaling districts. Our latest school, Jyamire Chaur Primary School is close to Gorkha, right near the epicentre. It  has been (and still is) a fantastic effort from everyone that has helped make this happen. Every penny donated has gone to the school projects as Juniper Trust is run entirely by volunteers - JT has no overheads or salaried staff.  We hope to have all of the schools finished or nearing completion by the end of May 2016 and uniforms for all. A massive Thank You! on behalf of 1,200 children.

An Update on all 10 schools

Sagarmatha School
Budha Kinja Primary School - COMPLETED!
Kinja School is a medium sized one, with 130 students from the poorer backgrounds as the more affluent parents manage to send their children to bigger towns for schooling. The school was completely flattened in the earthquake and the new school was finally completed in March 2016, with new uniforms and equipment delivered for all the students in early April.

Great news from Pasang who is overseeing this project; the foundations are in and the walls are going up. We expect the school to be finished in the next two months.

Juvine School
Juvine School (Jiri, Everest)
This is one of the larger JT projects requiring 6 classrooms, a computer room, library, science room and a staff room for the teachers. The local community is very poor and there was no funding from any other sources. In February, the land was cleared and the locals collected and started splitting stones for the foundations. We are waiting for an update at the end April.

Juniper Trust in it for the long haul

Sponsor a child in Nepal
We intend to continue our support for all the schools once they have been either repaired or rebuilt. We've already started to raise money to provide uniforms and equipment for the children, for when they return to their studies. The cost of providing each child with shoes and a uniform is just $30 (£20) and our aim is to provide this for every child. We are also looking to provide scholarships for families who need extra support.

How can you help?

You can donate to any of the projects at Junipertrust.co.uk. where there are full details on each project. Ask your friends and family to help – just £20 will provide a uniform for a child who often has to go to school in dusty rags. Every contribution no matter how big or small, makes a difference. 100% of all donations will go to the project of your choice.

If you can find additional funds, why not sponsor a set of uniforms and school equipment so that the new Juniper Trust buildings will be topped out in style!
